The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Vice President, Corporate Relations within our Western States Region. The location is flexible to locations within the Western States region with cost-effective access to travel across the territory served and convenient proximity to a major airport. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Corporate Relations, the Vice President, Corporate Relations is responsible for identifying, securing, cultivating, and leveraging corporate partnerships to maximize sustained income with a focus on significant opportunities that have the potential of impacting multiple markets in the Western States and the national organization. Due to the current pandemic, daily travel is minimal and voluntary to ensure the health and safety of staff. There is no overnight travel currently. In the future, this position may resume daily and/or overnight travel. All AHA offices are closed and staff are currently working from home. Offices will be reopening on a part-time basis in September 2021 and a full-time basis in January 2022; this position will resume to being based in the local office. Responsibilities Essential Job Duties:
  • Develops and implements a comprehensive corporate relations plan to produce aggressive growth in primarily unrestricted revenue with the expectation that revenue goals are met and exceeded on a sustainable basis. This includes ensuring full alignment with and consistent execution of the organization's mission and goals and effectively collaborating with colleagues across the region and the organization to identify and maximize cross-functional/cross-market opportunities.
  • Oversees management of the Corporate Relations team to ensure overall revenue goals are achieved/exceeded. In conjunction with the Senior Vice President of Corporate Relations
  • Leads and directly implements Corporate Relations strategies with focused attention on company acquisition and retention, revenue collaboration and mission impact. Establishes and develops effective working partnerships with Executive Directors and staff and volunteer leads through effective, regular communication and presence, availability, and accessibility to drive the ongoing process of identifying, recruiting, and activating corporate partnerships. Includes directly developing and managing a robust portfolio of qualified prospects with focus on solicitation, retention, and growth as well as leading and consulting with internal partners on sourced prospects.
  • Demonstrates the AHA leadership competencies and employs effective management techniques in the sourcing, recruitment, selection, supervision, management, and leadership of staff to appropriately develop and engage staff to achieve organizational objectives. Creates and fosters a professional work environment that promotes and values collaboration, trust, teamwork, empowerment, professionalism, and diversity in which communication is open, staff help each other, conflicts are quickly resolved, newcomers are supported, agreed-on standards are observed through personal and shared accountability, and where interdependent collaboration is understood to be required for success.
  • Leads and facilitates product development to effectively market community impact opportunities as tangible investment opportunities for corporate sponsorship.
  • Serves as the Western States liaison with the field and National Center on sponsorship opportunities related to commercial and emerging strategies in conjunction with the SVP of Corporate Relations.
  • Provides management expertise, coaching, and monitoring of corporate sponsorships including the renewal and acquisition of participating Companies and Sponsorship to maximize growth and quality account management. Remains current with business and sponsorship industry trends.
  • Regularly evaluates and reports on campaign progress utilizing the campaign management tools and reporting systems available. Ensures the integrity and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security of donor information and adheres to established policies and procedures.
  • Operates in accordance with the AHA's Fiscal Standard policies and all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and standards.

  • Minimum of five (5) years:
  • Demonstrated track record in building effective teams of staff and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated track record in setting and achieving aggressive goals on a sustained basis.
  • Leadership experience in a comparable non-profit or sales organization
  • Experience recruiting, engaging, and activating executive level corporate volunteers.
  • Ability to influence others to action through creating a shared vision and sense of ownership and personal accountability.
  • Ability to credibly establish and execute a strategic plan across functional areas and disciplines in a complex and highly dynamic environment, effectively translating strategies to measurable goals and plans.
  • Proven ability to think strategically, analyze market data, identify key trends, and have participated in the strategy development and execution of initiatives to achieve fundraising and operational goals.
Here are some of the preferred skills we are looking for:
  • Bachelor’s degree may be preferred in supporting the required level of skill, knowledge and experience required.
  • Demonstrated skills in written and oral communications, including large and small group presentations, group facilitation and training and writing clear, concise narrative reports and evaluations.
  • Knowledge of corporate and community networks.
  • Knowledge of AHA’s mission and programs.
