Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
Prosper Global is a humanitarian organization that was established to address urgent needs and create conditions for lasting progress in communities facing conflict, climate change, and economic hardship. The organization was formerly known as Mercy Corps until it rebranded in 2026 to reflect its mission of enabling every community to prosper. Prosper Global operates in multiple countries, focusing on innovative solutions that combine local knowledge with global resources. The organization aims to empower individuals and communities by providing them with the necessary tools and support to build sustainable livelihoods and improve their overall quality of life. Prosper Global is committed to fostering economic growth and resilience, particularly in vulnerable regions such as the Caribbean, where it implements programs like the Strengthening Caribbean Economic Growth (SCEG) initiative to address barriers to employment and entrepreneurship.
Job Overview:
The MSME Access to Finance Assessment and Approach Consultant will play a crucial role in conducting a regional assessment of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) finance and financial inclusion in the Caribbean. This position requires the consultant to analyze the current state of financial services available to MSMEs, identify constraints and opportunities, and develop a comprehensive approach paper that will guide future programming and partnerships. The consultant will engage with various stakeholders, including financial service providers and community-based organizations, to gather insights and data that will inform the assessment. The ultimate goal is to enhance access to financial services for MSMEs, enabling them to thrive and contribute to economic growth in their respective regions. The consultant will work remotely, with the expectation of completing the project by December 18, 2026, and will report to the Program Manager for Resilient Communities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for conducting a thorough assessment of the current financial services landscape for MSMEs in the Caribbean. This includes analyzing the offerings of financial service providers, understanding the financing needs and constraints of MSMEs, and evaluating existing risk-sharing and blended finance mechanisms. The consultant will also review regulatory factors affecting MSME finance and identify opportunities for improvement. Key deliverables include a 25-page assessment and approach paper, a presentation of findings to Prosper Global staff, and materials for a workshop aimed at discussing the assessment results and future programming. The consultant will need to conduct interviews with stakeholders, compile data, and synthesize findings into actionable recommendations for enhancing MSME access to finance.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess 7-10 years of experience in financial inclusion, particularly within the Caribbean context. They should have a proven track record of conducting assessments, actor mapping, and developing financial inclusion strategies. Strong knowledge of the Caribbean financial services sector is essential, along with a wide network of contacts within this field. The consultant should demonstrate expertise in market system development, private sector engagement, and market assessments. Additionally, the ability to work independently and conduct remote interviews is crucial, as is proficiency in English, with Spanish being a preferred asset.
Educational Background:
A relevant educational background in finance, economics, international development, or a related field is required for this position. Advanced degrees such as a Master's or equivalent experience in a relevant area will be considered an advantage, as they provide a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in financial inclusion and economic development.
Experience:
The consultant should have extensive experience working in financial inclusion, ideally with a focus on MSMEs in the Caribbean. This includes familiarity with the challenges faced by small businesses in accessing finance, as well as experience in developing and implementing strategies to overcome these barriers. Previous work with NGOs, development agencies, or financial institutions will be beneficial, as it demonstrates an understanding of the ecosystem in which MSMEs operate.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all communications and reports will be conducted in this language. Proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable, as it will facilitate engagement with a broader range of stakeholders in the Caribbean region.
Additional Notes:
This position is expected to be completed remotely, with a total expected level of effort of 20-25 days. The consultant will work closely with the Program Manager and other team members, including the Senior Advisor for Digital and Financial Inclusion and the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning team. The role is designed to be flexible, allowing for collaboration across different time zones and locations. Prosper Global is committed to fostering an inclusive work environment and adheres to strict safeguarding and ethical standards, ensuring that all team members conduct themselves professionally and respectfully.
