Chief of Staff - Vice President of HIV, Hepatitis, and TB
Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization founded in 2002 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Its mission is to save lives and reduce the burden of disease in low- and middle-income countries. CHAI works at the invitation of governments to support them and the private sector in creating and sustaining high-quality health systems. Over the years, CHAI has expanded its focus beyond HIV to include infectious diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis, as well as non-communicable diseases like cancer and diabetes. The organization operates in 40 countries and is committed to maximizing sustainable impact at scale, ensuring that governments lead the solutions, and sharing learnings globally. CHAI values diversity and inclusion and is an Equal Opportunity Employer, providing an environment of fairness and mutual respect for all applicants.
Job Overview:
The Chief of Staff will serve as the right hand to the Vice President leading CHAI's HIV, Hepatitis, and TB cluster. This role involves significant communication and synthesis responsibilities, where the Chief of Staff will gather input from program teams and create presentations, briefs, and talking points for the VP's engagements with donors and partners. The position also includes leading special projects that require cross-cutting efforts, such as coordinating joint donor proposals and managing urgent VP priorities. The Chief of Staff will prepare the VP for key meetings, triage incoming requests, and help prioritize the VP's time effectively. The role is flexible in terms of location but requires consistent availability to work East Coast hours, with some travel expected.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree and at least six years of professional experience in management consulting, global health, strategy, or operations. Exceptional skills in producing content, particularly in PowerPoint, with a proven track record of creating executive-quality decks and donor materials. Strong technical writing skills and the ability to synthesize information at an executive level. Sound judgment regarding confidentiality and the ability to manage sensitive information. Proficiency with AI tools for research and drafting, along with the ability to critically assess their outputs. Proven project management skills, with experience in developing fundraising materials and a strong ability to conduct research and structured problem-solving. Confidence in managing up and taking initiative, with a commitment to CHAI's mission and values.
Educational Background:
A Bachelor's degree is required, with a preference for fields related to health, management, or a similar discipline. Advanced degrees may be considered an asset but are not mandatory.
Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of six years of relevant professional experience, ideally in fast-paced environments such as strategy consulting, investment banking, or the pharmaceutical industry. Experience in infectious disease programming or access-to-medicines work is highly desirable, as is familiarity with fundraising or business development in the social impact sector.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in additional languages relevant to the regions CHAI operates in would be considered an asset.
Additional Notes:
This is a full-time position with a flexible base location, requiring the ability to work East Coast hours. The role may involve remote work and some travel to program countries. CHAI is open to candidates from diverse backgrounds and experiences, emphasizing the importance of aptitude, judgment, and enthusiasm for the mission over a fixed set of qualifications.
