Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian organization that provides assistance and protection to refugees and displaced persons. Established in 1956, DRC operates in multiple countries around the world, focusing on providing support in conflict-affected areas. The organization aims to promote durable solutions for displaced populations and advocates for their rights. DRC employs thousands of staff globally, working in various sectors including protection, livelihoods, and emergency response.

Job Overview:
The DRC Protection Officer is responsible for delivering confidential, survivor-centered Gender-Based Violence (GBV) case management in Ayod, South Sudan. This role involves supporting the GBV Case Worker Assistant in providing safe and consistent services to survivors of GBV. The officer will help survivors make informed choices and access appropriate support through coordinated referrals and follow-ups. The position requires a strong understanding of GBV issues, the ability to manage a caseload effectively, and the capacity to provide technical guidance to junior staff. The officer will also be involved in maintaining case records, ensuring confidentiality, and participating in supervision and staff-care arrangements.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Survivor-Centered Case Management: Manage a caseload using approved procedures, including engagement, informed consent, assessment, safety and action planning, referrals, follow-up, and case closure. Explain confidentiality limits before collecting information and seek informed consent for services and referrals. Provide supportive listening and basic psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support. Facilitate access to health, mental health, legal, and other services based on survivor wishes. Recognize urgent safety concerns and seek supervision promptly. Work with adolescent survivors using appropriate consent procedures.
  • Case Quality and Continuity: Provide daily technical guidance to the assistant, review workload and documentation, and escalate complex cases to a qualified supervisor. Maintain updated referral contacts and check service availability. Agree on safe contact methods with survivors and plan for continuity during visits and access interruptions. Hold case discussions only when necessary, ensuring appropriate consent and minimal information sharing.
  • Information Management and Reporting: Keep case records secure and separate from activity registers. Use approved systems and apply role-based access and incident-reporting procedures. Report aggregated service information without identifying survivors. Participate in supervision and adhere to safeguarding and Code of Conduct requirements.

Required Qualifications:
A degree in social work, psychology, social sciences, or a related field is required. A relevant diploma with substantial directly relevant experience may be considered subject to HR approval. Candidates must have at least two years of relevant GBV response or protection experience, including direct survivor-centered case management. Demonstrated training and practical competence in GBV case management, informed consent, safety planning, and confidential documentation are essential. Experience working with women and adolescent girls in humanitarian settings is crucial, along with the ability to coordinate with health, psychosocial, and child-protection providers.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a degree in social work, psychology, social sciences, or a related field. A relevant diploma may be accepted if accompanied by substantial directly relevant experience, subject to HR approval. Formal case-supervision training is considered an advantage.

Experience:
The position requires at least two years of relevant experience in GBV response or protection, specifically in survivor-centered case management. Candidates should have demonstrated training and practical competence in GBV case management and experience working in humanitarian settings, particularly with women and adolescent girls.

Languages:
Strong working proficiency in English is mandatory for confidential documentation and coordination. Fluency in a local language is required, with Nuer being an advantage.
