Job Overview:
The internship-programme" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Internship Programme at IOM is designed to attract talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in areas relevant to IOM's programs and activities. Interns are expected to be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience. The selected candidate will work under the overall direction of the Chief of Mission and the direct supervision of the Senior Project Assistant, assisting with operational and administrative activities of the Labour Mobility, Social Inclusion, and Resettlement Unit. The intern will develop an understanding of the policy and operational context of resettlement and family reunification in the Netherlands, support project implementation, engage with stakeholders, and assist with various administrative tasks. The internship aims to provide practical experience in migration policy and programming, enhance research and analytical skills, and improve professional communication and organizational skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: developing an understanding of the resettlement and family reunification context in the Netherlands; supporting project coordination and documentation preparation; engaging with stakeholders involved in family reunification and resettlement activities; reviewing and summarizing policy documents and reports; attending meetings and preparing notes and reports; managing project files and records; handling information requests; contributing to the development of new project ideas; and assisting with communication and visibility efforts related to migration and resettlement activities. The intern may also be assigned additional duties as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong research and analytical skills, fluency in Dutch and excellent spoken and written English, and attention to detail. Good communication and interpersonal skills, as well as administrative capabilities, are also essential. Experience with writing project proposals or fundraising is advantageous, and familiarity with international organizations or NGOs is desirable. A proven interest in migration issues is also important for applicants.
Educational Background:
Candidates should have a degree or be currently studying in a relevant field such as International Relations, Political Science, Migration Studies, European Studies, Law, Sociology, Public Administration, or another related discipline. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application: be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or have graduated with a university degree and must commence the internship within one year of graduation.
Experience:
The position requires candidates to have less than two years of relevant working experience. Experience with writing project proposals or fundraising is considered an advantage, as is experience with international organizations or NGOs. A demonstrated interest in migration issues is also essential for candidates applying for this internship.
Languages:
Fluency in English and Dutch is mandatory for this internship. Proficiency in an additional UN language is considered an asset. Language skills will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

- Depending on experience and location, interns may receive a small monthly stipend to help offset costs. However, interns who receive an internship allowance or scholarship that includes financial remuneration or credits for coursework will not be eligible for the stipend. IOM provides coverage against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan for the duration of the internship, but does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for non-occupational accidents and illnesses. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance and must provide proof of coverage before starting work. Any offer made to the candidate is subject to funding confirmation, and appointment will be contingent upon certification of medical fitness, residency or visa requirements, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security clearances. IOM maintains a zero-tolerance policy on conduct incompatible with the aims and objectives of the United Nations and IOM, including sexual exploitation and abuse, sexual harassment, and discrimination.
