Job Posting Organization:
WJCF (Welfare and Justice for Communities Foundation) is an Indian non-profit organization established in 2007, dedicated to improving health outcomes by reducing disease burden and strengthening health systems. With a focus on data-driven approaches and strong partnerships with government entities, WJCF operates across 19 states and union territories in India. The organization collaborates with various international and domestic partners, including the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), to enhance public health initiatives and ensure effective program implementation. WJCF's mission encompasses a wide range of health issues, including vector-borne diseases, maternal and child health, and chronic conditions, making it a pivotal player in India's health landscape.

Job Overview:
The Entomologist position within the Entomology Support Unit is crucial for leading and facilitating entomological surveillance and vector control activities aimed at enhancing the overall capacity for managing vector-borne diseases (VBDs) in India. The role involves generating entomological evidence to guide targeted interventions and strengthen integrated vector management (IVM) strategies at both national and sub-national levels. The Entomologist will work closely with the National Center for Vector Borne Diseases Control (NCVBDC) and state-level teams to ensure effective data collection, analysis, and reporting, ultimately contributing to the elimination of VBDs as outlined by government commitments. This position requires a proactive approach to capacity building, data management, and collaboration with various stakeholders to address the ongoing challenges posed by VBDs in India.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Vector Surveillance: Facilitate regular surveillance of vectors at national and sub-national levels, ensuring standardized methods are employed. Conduct resistance testing and ensure accurate species identification. Mentor state and district teams in reporting vector data, including density and seasonal trends. Participate in entomological monitoring to assess the impact of vector control measures.
  • Data Management and Reporting: Collect, compile, and analyze entomological data to inform interventions. Produce timely reports for the VBD program and maintain a comprehensive entomological database. Share analyzed data during review meetings and provide risk assessments to policymakers.
  • Capacity Building and Supervision: Develop training modules and conduct training sessions for entomology technicians and field staff. Support the establishment of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality assurance standards.
  • Coordination, Collaboration, and Advocacy: Advocate for resource allocation and staffing at national and state levels. Collaborate with stakeholders for integrated vector control activities and participate in outbreak investigations.
  • Programmatic Support and Strategy Development: Assist in developing vector control policies and evaluate the impact of interventions on vector populations and disease incidence. Develop tailored vector control plans based on local ecological conditions.

Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in medical Entomology, Vector Biology, Public Health, Parasitology, or a related biological science field. A postgraduate diploma or Master’s degree in Entomology, MSc Zoology, Public Health, or Epidemiology is an added advantage. A minimum of 5 years of field experience in vector surveillance or control is required, along with experience in species identification and insecticide resistance testing. Familiarity with WHO entomological methods and IVM principles is essential, as is proficiency in data management and analysis tools. Strong communication and community engagement skills are also necessary for this role.
