Job Overview:
The Logistics Assistant for Crossborder Operations at WFP will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient movement of WFP cargo across borders. This position requires close coordination with clearing agents and governmental entities to facilitate the timely import and export of consignments. The Logistics Assistant will supervise cargo inspections and ensure compliance with customs requirements, providing guidance to transporters and clearing agents. The role involves maintaining detailed records of each convoy's status, including arrival dates, inspection outcomes, and necessary releases. The Logistics Assistant will also be responsible for compiling shipment information, submitting operational reports, and addressing any bottlenecks in customs procedures. This position is vital for ensuring that humanitarian assistance reaches those in need without unnecessary delays, thereby contributing to WFP's mission of saving lives and alleviating hunger.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate closely with the clearing agent and relevant governmental entities to ensure the timely and efficient cross-border operation of WFP consignments.
  • Supervise cargo inspections conducted by governmental departments such as Customs, SSMO, PPD, and Biosafety.
  • Provide guidance to clearing agents and transporters on customs requirements to ensure efficient clearance procedures.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records for each convoy, including arrival dates, border crossings, inspection statuses, releases, departures, offloading, and returns.
  • Submit daily status reports to supervisors regarding ongoing activities.
  • Liaise with all relevant parties to ensure smooth clearance and movement of WFP cargo.
  • Compile preliminary shipment information from RBC/WFP Sudan and establish records for expected arrivals.
  • Ensure timely delivery of all required documents to the clearing agent.
  • Inform supervisors of any operational or customs clearing bottlenecks that may require intervention. 1
  • Report on the general situation at the cross-border point, including operational flow, congestion, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security issues, and strikes. 1
  • Ensure that copies of final cargo releases and certificates issued by authorities are received and properly filed. 1
  • Adhere to WFP ethics and operational standards in all logistics aspects while performing assigned responsibilities. 1
  • Perform any other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
  • University degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • At least two years of relevant experience in supply chain management, warehousing, and/or logistics, preferably within a humanitarian organization or private sector companies involved in humanitarian projects.
  • Experience in managing warehouses and large teams is essential.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and maintain good relationships with clients, partners, and colleagues.
  • Proven organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong analytical abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.
  • Knowledge of SAP or other ERP systems is desirable.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of logistics and supply chain operations, particularly in a humanitarian context.

Experience:
The position requires at least two years of relevant experience in supply chain management, warehousing, and logistics. Candidates should have experience working within humanitarian organizations or private sector companies that deal with humanitarian projects. Experience in managing warehouses and large teams is also necessary, as well as the ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of WFP. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they are relevant to the regions where WFP operates.
