Job Overview:
The Communications Specialist will play a vital role in supporting the communications efforts of the WWF Plastic & Material Science team within the Private Sector Engagement (PSE) department. This position is focused on corporate and policy action aimed at achieving the goal of No Plastic in Nature. The specialist will help implement external communications strategies related to this issue, working closely with both internal and external partners. The role requires real-time engagement and collaboration, as well as in-person support for various meetings, events, and communications activities. The specialist will contribute to a broader communications strategy that aims to inspire and motivate business audiences to take on corporate leadership in addressing plastic pollution. This position is essential for executing communication workplans that position WWF as a leader in the plastics issue area, targeting diverse audiences including businesses, policymakers, and WWF supporters.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities of the Communications Specialist include executing communication workplans to enhance WWF's leadership in the plastics issue area, collaborating with PSE and media staff to ensure timely and coordinated communications, and finalizing communications materials with legal approval. The specialist will support WWF's corporate partners in developing and implementing communications plans related to plastic pollution, maintaining and updating WWF's Plastics Initiative webpages, and providing in-person communications support for speaking engagements. Additionally, the specialist will contribute to social media strategies, create content for various platforms, and support project management for asset development with third-party vendors. The role also involves developing internal newsletters and corporate partner communications reporting, along with other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree with at least 5 years of professional experience, or 2+ years of experience with an advanced degree in a relevant field. Strong organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential. The ideal candidate will have critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills, along with the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Proficiency in graphic design and project management is required, as well as a working knowledge of sustainable business practices. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite is necessary, and the ability to travel nationally and internationally up to 10% is expected.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, environmental science, or a related field is required. An advanced degree may substitute for some experience, but a strong foundation in communications principles is essential for success in this role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in communications, preferably within a communications agency or in-house external communications role. Candidates with 2+ years of experience and an advanced degree will also be considered. Experience working with external partners and managing multiple communications projects is crucial.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of additional languages may be beneficial but is not required for this position.
