Duties and Responsibilities:
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of environmental issues, particularly in the context of climate change and biodiversity. They should demonstrate excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear and actionable insights. Strong communication skills are essential, as the role involves engaging with various stakeholders and presenting findings effectively. Additionally, candidates should exhibit adaptability and flexibility in a dynamic work environment, along with a commitment to UNESCO's mission and values.
Educational Background:
A degree in environmental science, natural resource management, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees (Master's or PhD) are preferred and will be considered an asset. Candidates should have a solid academic foundation that supports their understanding of climate adaptation, biodiversity management, and sustainable development practices.
Experience:
Candidates should have relevant experience in environmental research, project development, or program management, ideally within an international or UN context. Experience working on climate adaptation, water management, or biodiversity initiatives is highly desirable. The role may require familiarity with funding mechanisms and resource mobilization strategies, as well as experience in stakeholder engagement and collaboration.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within UNESCO and in Kathmandu. Knowledge of Nepali or Nepal Bhasa is advantageous but not required. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered a plus, particularly if they relate to the region or the stakeholders involved.
Additional Notes:
This position is a national UN Volunteer assignment, which means the volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The assignment is expected to be full-time, and the volunteer will be part of the malicious insurance plan provided by the UN. The living conditions in Kathmandu are generally affordable, with low living costs compared to other Asian cities. The climate is characterized by warm days and cool nights, with significant rainfall during the monsoon season. - Project development, resource mobilization, and results management: Assist in developing concept notes, project proposals, donor submissions, and partnership documents. This includes creating results frameworks, budgets, indicators, monitoring tools, and evaluation products.
- Collaborate closely with the direct supervisor to finalize a work plan that outlines key objectives and activities, ensuring regular check-ins to review progress and receive feedback.
