Job Overview:
The Protection Assistant - Child Protection - Case Management position is crucial for implementing child protection services in Tripoli, Libya, aimed at addressing the urgent humanitarian needs of children. The role involves establishing Child Friendly Spaces to provide essential prevention activities, such as awareness-raising and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support, while ensuring early identification and referrals for children at risk of exploitation, violence, abuse, and harm. The Protection Assistant will work under the guidance of the Protection Team Leader and will be responsible for implementing DRC's Child Protection case management activities in accordance with established policies and standards. This position requires a proactive approach to creating an enabling environment for community-based child protection activities and other relevant interventions as outlined in DRC's Protection Strategy for Libya. The successful candidate will be expected to engage with children and communities effectively, ensuring that their voices are heard and their protection concerns are addressed.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The main duties and responsibilities of the Protection Assistant include:
  • Implementing child protection case management in accordance with DRC’s Child Protection Policy and specific Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs).
  • Participating in training, supervision, and ongoing coaching to enhance skills and incorporate technical advice into daily activities.
  • Providing direct services, including psychosocial support, in collaboration with the Protection Team Leader and other specialists.
  • Facilitating referrals in line with DRC’s policies and ensuring adherence to child protection standards.
  • Conducting activities that contribute to the evolution of the Child Protection program as directed by the line manager.
  • Engaging with community members using participatory approaches to identify protection concerns.
  • Maintaining data confidentiality and ensuring accurate data entry and analysis for case management.
  • Collaborating with Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) teams to carry out feedback activities.
  • Representing DRC to stakeholders, ensuring professional standards and transparent communication. 1
  • Supporting program activities related to logistics, administration, finance, or security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security as needed, ensuring compliance with internal policies.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the Protection Assistant position, candidates must possess at least one year of professional experience in humanitarian interventions, particularly in child protection or related fields. Experience in individualized services or community aspects of child protection programming is advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate competencies in the Child Protection in Humanitarian Action framework and have familiarity with international protection and human rights legal standards. Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust with communities are essential, along with basic proficiency in MS Office applications. Cultural awareness and sensitivity, as well as a field-oriented attitude, are also important attributes for this role.

Educational Background:
Candidates are required to have a University Degree in Social Sciences, Sociology, Community Development, Communication, Humanitarian Affairs, or a related field. An educational background that specifically involves working with children is preferred, as it aligns with the responsibilities of the role and the organization's mission to protect vulnerable populations.

Experience:
The position requires at least one year of relevant professional experience in humanitarian work, with a strong preference for candidates who have experience specifically in child protection case management. Experience in related fields such as Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) and General Protection will also be considered valuable. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to humanitarian principles and a strong understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable populations, particularly children.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken Arabic is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for effective communication with the target population. Additionally, a good working knowledge of English is required to facilitate collaboration with international teams and stakeholders, ensuring that all documentation and reporting are conducted accurately and professionally.
