Job Overview:
The Chauffeur position at WFP involves ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of authorized personnel and goods. The role requires the driver to operate various types of vehicles, including light vehicles, trucks, and motorcycles, and may also involve driving boats or other maritime transport. The Chauffeur is expected to maintain a high standard of vehicle upkeep, including cleanliness and mechanical condition, and to keep accurate records of vehicle usage and maintenance. This position is crucial for supporting WFP's operations in N'Djamena, where the driver will assist in facilitating the movement of staff and supplies in a secure manner, adhering to UN regulations and safety protocols. The role also includes performing simple administrative tasks as needed, contributing to the overall efficiency of the office.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide safe and efficient transportation for authorized personnel and deliver various items while adhering to authorized routes and UN safety regulations.
  • Welcome official personnel and visitors at the airport or other entry points, assisting them with visa and customs formalities to ensure smooth and secure travel to their destinations.
  • Maintain a detailed vehicle maintenance log and report daily mechanical status to the supervisor to ensure efficient vehicle use and fuel consumption.
  • Ensure that the assigned vehicle is kept clean and in good working order, with timely maintenance and all necessary travel authorizations onboard. Report any mechanical issues to the supervisor promptly.
  • Follow established rules and regulations for field deliveries and report any incidents or accidents to the supervisor immediately to facilitate informed decision-making.
  • Perform simple administrative tasks as required, such as filing, photocopying, and inventory management, to provide administrative support.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed secondary education and possess a valid driver’s license or certificate allowing them to operate the assigned vehicle in compliance with local regulations. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of two years of experience as a driver, preferably within an embassy, UN agency, or international organization. Experience driving various vehicle types, including vans and other motorized vehicles, is essential. Knowledge of safe driving practices and local road conditions is required, along with the ability to read and interpret safety documents and procedures. Basic emergency assistance skills and familiarity with communication tools such as radios and mobile phones are also necessary. Candidates should demonstrate responsibility, courtesy, and tact in their interactions.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary education. Candidates must also have formal driver training and a valid driving license that permits them to operate the assigned vehicle according to local regulations.

Experience:
The position requires at least two years of professional driving experience, ideally in a diplomatic or international organization context. Experience with preventive driving techniques and familiarity with various vehicle models is preferred, as well as a solid understanding of local driving conditions and safety regulations.

Languages:
Fluency in French (level C) is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
