Job Overview: The Particle Accelerator Operator position at CERN offers an exciting opportunity to join the team responsible for operating the CERN accelerator complex from the CERN Control Centre (CCC). The Operations Group plays a crucial role in the exploitation of the entire CERN accelerator complex, including the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The operator will be involved in the preparation and delivery of particle beams for various physics programs at CERN. This role requires participation in a 24/7 shift team, ensuring the safe and timely execution of the physics schedule while achieving defined beam performance goals. The operator will also contribute to the development of applications and advanced tools to enhance operational efficiency and reliability.
Duties and Responsibilities: As a Particle Accelerator Operator, you will take part in the 24/7 shift team responsible for running CERN's accelerator complex. Your duties will include operating proton and/or ion accelerators such as Linac3, Linac4, PSB, LEIR, and PS, as well as managing the beam lines to associated experimental facilities. You will work closely with accelerator physicists to optimize accelerator operations and design various operational scenarios. Additionally, you will assist the technical infrastructure team during non-operational periods and contribute to the development of advanced applications and tools in collaboration with engineers and physicists. Your responsibilities will also involve ensuring compliance with safety protocols and maintaining high performance standards during accelerator operations.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Higher Technical or Administrative Diploma or equivalent in fields such as Administration, Computer Engineering, Data Analysis, or a related area. A foundational understanding of software engineering in a modern development language environment is essential, along with familiarity with automation concepts and techniques. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a collaborative spirit, a drive for continuous improvement, and a willingness to work in a multidisciplinary team. Experience in operating large facilities and associated hardware, such as measurement devices and power converter techniques, is considered an asset.
