Job Overview: The Principal Investment Specialist position is a key role within the Equity Investments Unit of the Private Sector Operations Department at ADB. This position involves leading direct equity investments, providing strategic advice on private sector operations, and overseeing junior team members. The specialist will be responsible for the origination and processing of new investment opportunities, managing key accounts, and ensuring effective portfolio management. The role requires a deep understanding of financial markets, investment strategies, and risk management, as well as the ability to lead negotiations and maintain relationships with various stakeholders. The Principal Investment Specialist will also contribute to the development of operational frameworks and business plans, ensuring alignment with ADB's mission and objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Principal Investment Specialist will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
Origination and Processing: Develop and implement the equity operational framework, lead the origination of new investment opportunities, and provide structuring advice for direct equity investments.
Management of Key Accounts: Oversee primary account responsibilities, review compliance reports, and manage relationships with key stakeholders.
Portfolio Management: Monitor the financial health and development impact of the portfolio, ensuring compliance with financial covenants and environmental standards.
Strategy and Planning: Prepare annual portfolio management plans and develop strategies to optimize the portfolio.
Knowledge Center: Lead initiatives to introduce best practices in governance and risk management at investee companies.
External Liaison: Maintain relationships with financial intermediaries and share knowledge of market trends.
Staff Supervision: Supervise team members, providing direction and feedback to ensure high-quality work and professional development.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent in business administration, finance, or related fields, or a University degree with at least 5 years of specialized experience relevant to the position. A minimum of 12 years of combined professional experience in financial and emerging markets is required, with a strong background in project processing and administration of private sector projects. Candidates should have international experience and a deep understanding of credit and valuation analysis, risk management, and investment products, particularly in developing markets. Proven leadership and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to manage diverse teams, are essential for this role.
Educational Background: The educational requirements for the Principal Investment Specialist position include a Master's degree or equivalent in business administration, finance, or related fields. Alternatively, a University degree in these areas, combined with significant specialized experience, may be considered. The emphasis is on advanced knowledge and skills relevant to investment management and financial analysis.
Experience: The position requires at least 12 years of relevant professional experience, particularly in financial markets and private sector project administration. Candidates should have a proven track record in project finance, corporate finance, and investment management, with experience in dealing with distressed assets being an advantage.
