Job Overview: The Senior Data Management Assistant position is crucial for supporting UNHCR's operations in Cox's Bazar, where the incumbent will manage, analyze, and utilize operational data related to asylum seekers, refugees, and other persons of concern. The role involves maintaining accurate and consistent information in UNHCR databases and operational systems through data entry, extraction, validation, quality checks, and analysis. The incumbent will prepare timely statistical reports, dashboards, and other information products to support operational planning, monitoring, and decision-making by relevant functional units and partners. This position requires collaboration with field teams, technical colleagues, and operational partners to respond to data and information requirements effectively. The Senior Data Management Assistant will also assist users, support access arrangements, and provide training and capacity-building support to UNHCR personnel and partners, ensuring adherence to applicable policies and data protection requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Senior Data Management Assistant include entering data related to asylum seekers, refugees, and other persons of concern into the computer database, preparing reports and project documents, assisting in data compilation and interpretation for various reports, and developing forms for data collection and analysis. The incumbent may act as an interpreter for routine information exchange and translate documents as needed. Additional responsibilities include collecting GIS data, updating maps, and undertaking field trips to project sites. The incumbent will decide on data recorded in the database, resolve incidents, and escalate issues to the supervisor when necessary. Furthermore, the role involves supporting risk management, identifying opportunities impacting objectives, and performing other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma or 1 year of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Essential qualifications include proficiency in electronic data processing and information technology. The candidate should possess functional skills in computer literacy, data management, data collection methodologies, and database management. Completion of UNHCR learning programs or specific training relevant to the functions of the position is desirable. The candidate should demonstrate accountability, analytical thinking, client and results orientation, commitment to continuous learning, communication skills, organizational awareness, planning and organizing abilities, teamwork, collaboration, and technological awareness.
Educational Background: Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Statistics, Information Systems, or another relevant field. Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in operational data management, preferably in a refugee or humanitarian setting. This experience should include data processing, data-quality control, data extraction, operational workflows, and user support. Hands-on experience with UNHCR PRIMES applications, particularly proGres v4, is highly advantageous, along with familiarity with registration, identity management, biometric verification, and assistance-delivery tools and processes. Advanced skills in Microsoft SQL Server, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Power BI, and Microsoft Excel for operational reporting and analysis are also required.
Languages: Knowledge of English is mandatory, and proficiency in the UN working language of the duty station is required if it is not English. For General Service jobs, knowledge of English and/or the UN working language of the duty station is necessary. Local language proficiency is also beneficial for effective communication in the field.

The workweek is from Sunday to Thursday, with working hours from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, including a one-hour lunch break. The position is based in Cox's Bazar, which is a beach city with limited educational and health resources. The incumbent may be required to undertake field visits to refugee camps and registration sites.
