Job Overview: The Associate, Green Policy will play a crucial role within the Climate Strategy and Delivery Group (CSD) at the EBRD, focusing on the green economy transition in Kenya and Sub-Saharan Africa. This position requires a flexible approach, as the Associate will be expected to engage across various areas of the Bank's focus, contributing to a comprehensive green policy agenda that facilitates private sector investment and development. The role involves close collaboration with the RPS team to implement the Bank's transition mandate, ensuring that climate considerations are integrated into country priorities and investment processes. The Associate will also support the development and implementation of policy dialogue workstreams aimed at advancing the green transition, thereby contributing to the Bank's strategic objectives in climate and environmental sustainability.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Associate will be responsible for a wide range of accountabilities and responsibilities, including: monitoring and assessing green growth and reform progress in Kenya and other Sub-Saharan African countries; supporting the implementation of the Green Economy Transition Strategy 2026-30 (GET 2030); developing and implementing policy dialogue workstreams focused on the green transition; integrating climate considerations into investment processes, including providing technical assistance and capacity building; working on policy dialogue and transactions that link policy, finance, green technology uptake, and climate commitments; coordinating with London-based CSD and other teams to deliver green policy initiatives and analytical assignments; supporting Banking in delivering specific investments and preparing green policy assessments; engaging with internal and external stakeholders, including senior government officials, to advance the Bank's transition objectives; contributing to the preparation of country diagnostics and strategies; and performing ad hoc assignments such as drafting briefings and presentations on green economy developments.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to the Bank's transition agenda and possess relevant education at least to degree level in fields such as economics, development policy, industrial business, engineering, environmental sciences, or energy economics. Additionally, candidates should have experience managing projects and leading multi-disciplinary teams, familiarity with emerging markets and transition economies, and a strong understanding of finance and investment decision-making processes. Knowledge of the technical, industry, or policy area relevant to the role is essential, along with good knowledge of transport and regional connectivity in the region. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary to convey complex policy and technical issues to a diverse range of stakeholders.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is required, with at least a degree in economics, development policy, industrial business, engineering, environmental sciences, transport, environmental or energy economics, commerce, or equivalent professional experience. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of the green economy and the associated policy frameworks.
Experience: Candidates should have substantial experience in managing projects and leading teams, particularly in multi-disciplinary environments. Familiarity with emerging markets and transition economies is advantageous, as is experience in finance and investment decision-making. A strong understanding of the technical and policy areas relevant to the role is also required, along with experience in engaging with various stakeholders in the public and private sectors.
Languages: Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Familiarity with additional languages spoken in the EBRD countries of operations, particularly French, would be highly advantageous. This linguistic capability will facilitate communication with a broader range of stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of policy dialogue.
