Job Overview:
The Education Officer position at NRC is crucial for coordinating and implementing education activities in line with the organization's strategic objectives, proposals, budgets, and plans. The Education Officer will break down annual operational plans into actionable weekly, monthly, and quarterly plans, ensuring that all activities adhere to NRC policies and donor requirements. The officer will supervise and develop a team, prepare progress reports, and engage in monitoring and evaluation processes to assess the effectiveness of educational programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Education Officer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: coordinating education activities according to established strategies and budgets; ensuring compliance with NRC policies and donor requirements; engaging with communities and stakeholders; developing detailed implementation plans; supervising education technical assistants and community-based workers; promoting the Right to Education, particularly in emergencies; collaborating with education committees and partners; conducting classroom observations; ensuring timely completion of administrative tasks; representing NRC in external meetings; archiving documents according to NRC standards; providing detailed progress reports; and collaborating with the Finance Officer on financial processes related to project activities. The officer will also be responsible for training and capacity building within the team and adapting strategies based on the evolving context of operations.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university and have at least three years of experience working in Education in Emergencies (EiE) or education programming within conflict-affected or crisis contexts. The role requires fluency in local languages and English, both written and verbal. Candidates should demonstrate experience in project management, budget handling, and staff supervision. Strong communication skills, adaptability, and resourcefulness are essential, along with the ability to utilize digital tools for communication and data management. Candidates are expected to adhere to NRC's office rules and policies.
Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized university is required for this position. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge necessary for understanding the complexities of education in humanitarian contexts and equips the candidate with the skills needed to effectively manage educational programs and initiatives.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience in education programming, particularly in contexts affected by conflict or crises. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in complex and volatile environments, demonstrating the ability to adapt and respond to changing circumstances while achieving project objectives. Experience in managing teams and budgets is also essential, as well as documented results related to the responsibilities of the position.
Languages:
Fluency in local languages is mandatory, along with proficiency in English, both written and verbal. This linguistic capability is crucial for effective communication with local communities, stakeholders, and team members, ensuring that educational initiatives are implemented successfully and that all parties are engaged in the process.
Additional Notes:
The position is a fixed-term national contract with a duration until June 2027, with the possibility of extension. The role is classified as Grade 5, Step 1, and involves significant travel (approximately 70%) within the Rakhine State.
