Job Overview:
As a Digital Infrastructure Engineer, the primary responsibility is to design, implement, operate, and enhance the digital infrastructure that supports remote NATO offices in Kyiv. This role involves hands-on engineering of server, storage, and cloud-related infrastructure, ensuring that local digital services are secure, resilient, and reliable. The engineer will provide on-site IT support, troubleshoot infrastructure issues, maintain system software, and manage service-based contracts. The position requires a significant presence in Kyiv, with a work pattern of six weeks in Kyiv followed by two weeks in Brussels, emphasizing the importance of direct engagement with local users and stakeholders to ensure reliable technical outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Digital Infrastructure Engineer will be tasked with designing, installing, configuring, and maintaining server and storage systems, as well as related infrastructure services. Responsibilities include developing system designs and integration plans, monitoring infrastructure performance and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, performing system maintenance and backup activities, and providing on-site IT support for remote NATO offices. The engineer will also apply information security controls, conduct risk analyses, support cryptographic activities, and manage service-based contracts, ensuring supplier performance and contract renewals are effectively handled.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong focus on customer needs, demonstrate ownership and accountability, and exhibit sound judgment and problem-solving skills. Effective collaboration across organizational and geographic boundaries is essential, along with the ability to work independently in a remote environment. A disciplined approach to security and service reliability is crucial, as is adaptability in demanding circumstances. Good communication and interpersonal skills are also required, along with analytical skills and a solution-oriented mindset.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in a related field is required, along with at least 2 years of relevant experience. Alternatively, candidates with a minimum of 6 years of extensive and progressive experience in lieu of a degree will be considered. Practical experience in designing, implementing, and managing technology related to servers, storage systems, data centers, or cloud services is essential.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2 years of practical experience in the field, specifically in designing and managing technology and infrastructure. Experience troubleshooting infrastructure-related issues and performing regular maintenance is also necessary. Additionally, experience providing IT support in conflict zones is desirable, as is experience communicating with users at various levels, including senior or VIP users.

Languages:
A thorough knowledge of one NATO language, both written and spoken, is mandatory, while some knowledge of another NATO language is desirable. Knowledge of Ukrainian and/or Russian is also considered beneficial for this position.

Additional Notes:
The primary duty location is Kyiv, Ukraine, with Brussels, Belgium as a secondary location. The position is rated as an extreme-risk location by the NATO Office of Security, necessitating special security measures for personnel. Family members will not be relocated with the successful candidate. The role requires approximately 75% of time spent in Kyiv, with a recurring work pattern of six weeks in Kyiv followed by two weeks in Brussels. On-demand support outside normal business hours may be required, and candidates should not assume any benefits or relocation support without formal confirmation.
