Job Overview: The Consultant for Conflict Resolution is tasked with delivering a comprehensive range of informal dispute resolution services to UN personnel, utilizing both in-person and virtual engagement methods. Duties and Responsibilities: The Consultant for Conflict Resolution will be responsible for a variety of duties, including: providing alternative dispute resolution services to UN employees, conducting mediation sessions to help resolve workplace conflicts, maintaining neutrality and confidentiality throughout the mediation process, gathering relevant information to assist in understanding the issues at hand, facilitating discussions between conflicting parties, and helping them negotiate agreements. Additionally, the consultant will engage in outreach initiatives to raise awareness about informal conflict resolution services, conduct skill-building activities to enhance conflict competence among staff, and offer expert advice on dispute resolution techniques tailored to individual needs. The consultant will also develop relationships with visitors, advise them on available services, and follow up to gather feedback and provide further assistance as necessary.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in conflict resolution, law, social sciences, or a related field. Alternatively, a first university degree combined with relevant qualifications and experience may be accepted. A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible professional experience in dispute resolution, managerial, or legal roles is required. Experience in an international organizational setting is considered desirable, as it provides valuable context for the unique challenges faced within the UN framework.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in fields pertinent to conflict resolution and mediation. Candidates with a first university degree may still be considered if they possess the necessary experience and qualifications that demonstrate their capability to perform the duties of the role effectively.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible professional experience in areas related to dispute resolution, management, or legal affairs. This experience should ideally be gained within an international organizational context, which would provide the candidate with insights into the complexities of working in a diverse and multicultural environment.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written Arabic is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for effective communication within the UN.
