Job Overview:
The National Project Coordinator (NPC) will be responsible for leading and coordinating the remaining activities of the Ecosystem Restoration and Sustainable Land Management project on Tongoa Island, which is a three-year initiative funded by the GEF. The NPC will work under the overall administrative leadership of the FAO Sub-regional Coordinator for the Pacific and will receive technical guidance from various FAO officers. The role requires close collaboration with regional and sub-regional FAO offices, relevant ministries, and departments in Vanuatu. The NPC will ensure that all project activities align with the approved Annual Work Plan and Budget, and will play a crucial role in achieving the project's objectives of restoring degraded landscapes and implementing climate-resilient sustainable land management practices. The position demands a proactive approach to project management, ensuring timely completion of outputs and effective communication with stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The NPC will perform a variety of tasks including leading and coordinating the implementation of project activities according to the approved Annual Work Plan and Budget. Responsibilities include ensuring timely completion of project outputs, organizing Project Steering Committee meetings, monitoring implementation progress, collecting and reporting project monitoring data, preparing technical and financial reports, managing project expenditures, maintaining communication with government ministries and stakeholders, monitoring consultant performance, supporting evaluation activities, documenting lessons learned, and preparing project closure documentation. The NPC will also be responsible for submitting a final technical report detailing project achievements, challenges, and recommendations for future follow-up.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Forestry, Agriculture, Natural Resources Management, or Life Sciences, with a post-graduate degree being highly desirable. A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in planning, project implementation, and management of GEF-funded projects or programs is required. Experience working with FAO in the Pacific region is essential. Candidates should demonstrate strong project management skills and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in a relevant field such as Forestry, Agriculture, Natural Resources Management, or Life Sciences. A post-graduate degree is highly desirable, indicating a higher level of expertise and knowledge in the field.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in planning, project implementation, and management of GEF-funded projects or programs. Candidates should have a proven track record of successfully executing similar projects, particularly in the context of the Pacific region and with the FAO.
Languages:
Candidates must have a working knowledge of English and Bislama, which is essential for effective communication within the role. Proficiency in these languages will facilitate collaboration with local stakeholders and ensure that project objectives are met.
