Job Overview: The Knowledge Management Consultant will play a crucial role in enhancing WFP's knowledge management (KM) strategies and practices. This position involves working closely with various stakeholders to refine methodologies, develop strategic frameworks, and implement effective knowledge-sharing practices across the organization. The consultant will be responsible for conducting assessments of existing KM initiatives, benchmarking against other UN agencies, and developing a comprehensive KM strategy that aligns with WFP's mission and goals. The consultant will also be tasked with creating an implementation roadmap that outlines actionable steps for enhancing KM practices within WFP, ensuring that knowledge is effectively captured, synthesized, and disseminated throughout the organization. This role requires a deep understanding of KM principles, organizational learning, and change management, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will undertake a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: participating in inception meetings with key stakeholders to refine the methodology and deliverables; conducting desk reviews of WFP strategies and KM initiatives; mapping existing KM practices and workflows; conducting interviews, surveys, and focus groups with WFP staff; benchmarking KM approaches from other UN agencies; defining the vision and mission for KM at WFP; developing a KM operating model; proposing mechanisms for knowledge capture and dissemination; integrating cross-cutting themes such as gender and digital transformation; developing a detailed implementation roadmap with estimated resources and KPIs; and presenting the draft strategy to WFP management for feedback and finalization.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Knowledge Management, Information Science, Organizational Development, International Development, or related fields. A minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience in developing KM strategies for international organizations, preferably within the UN system, is required. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in organizational learning, change management, and digital knowledge platforms. Strong writing, facilitation, and communication skills are essential, as well as experience in conducting interviews and participatory workshops.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree in a relevant field such as Knowledge Management, Information Science, Organizational Development, or International Development is required. This educational background should provide a solid foundation in the principles and practices of knowledge management and organizational learning, equipping the candidate with the necessary skills to develop and implement effective KM strategies.
Experience: The position requires a significant level of experience, specifically a minimum of 7 to 10 years in developing knowledge management strategies for international organizations. Candidates should have a proven track record of working within the UN system or similar environments, demonstrating their ability to navigate complex organizational structures and effectively engage with diverse stakeholders. Experience in conducting assessments, interviews, and participatory workshops is also essential to ensure the successful implementation of KM initiatives.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within WFP. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the regions where WFP operates, would be considered an asset and beneficial for engaging with diverse stakeholders and communities.
