Job Overview:
The position of Graphic Designer is part of the Creative Services Roster at UNESCO's Regional Office for South Asia. The selected candidates will be engaged on an 'on-call' basis to provide graphic design services for various communications and public engagement activities. This role is crucial for enhancing the visibility and impact of UNESCO's work in the region. Candidates will be responsible for conceptualizing and developing creative designs for both print and digital products, including publications, reports, brochures, infographics, social media assets, and more. The role requires proficiency in designing for digital platforms, as a significant portion of the design needs will be for social media content. The roster will be valid from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2027, or until further notice, and candidates must be prepared to work remotely while maintaining regular communication with the UNESCO team.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conceptualize and develop visually engaging designs for a variety of print and digital products, including publications, reports, brochures, infographics, social media assets, presentations, websites, e-newsletters, motion graphics, and animations.
  • Design social media content optimized for various platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube, including static tiles, animated posts, and campaign visuals.
  • Present design concepts for review and produce customized visual solutions that effectively communicate UNESCO's key messages and program priorities.
  • Ensure all designs comply with UNESCO's Graphic Standards and Logo Toolkit, reflect gender equality and cultural diversity, and respect different communities.
  • Secure necessary intellectual property rights for any third-party visual assets used and ensure compliance with copyright requirements.
  • Participate in assignment briefings and coordinate closely with the UNESCO Communications team throughout the design process.
  • Submit draft designs for review, incorporate feedback, and deliver final print-ready and digital files, including editable source files and packaged artwork, within agreed timelines.
  • Propose service rates as flat rates per page or per work, clearly indicating the pricing structure in the application.

Required Qualifications:
  • University degree and/or professional training in graphic design, visual communication, digital design, illustration, or related fields.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of demonstrable professional graphic design experience, including experience in social media content design and digital communication materials.
  • Experience with publications and institutional communications is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop; familiarity with Canva, Adobe Express, or equivalent digital-first design tools is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of design principles, including typography, color theory, composition, and visual hierarchy.
  • Experience with motion graphics or animation (Adobe After Effects or equivalent) is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently under tight deadlines and revision cycles.
  • Familiarity with UNESCO or UN visual identity standards is an advantage.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a university degree or professional training in graphic design, visual communication, digital design, illustration, or related fields. This educational background is essential to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for the role.

Experience:
Candidates are required to have a minimum of three (3) years of professional graphic design experience. This experience should include a strong focus on social media content design and the creation of digital communication materials. Experience with publications and institutional communications will be considered an asset, as it demonstrates the candidate's ability to work within established guidelines and standards.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both oral and written, is required for this position. This proficiency is essential for effective communication with the UNESCO team and for understanding project requirements and feedback.

Additional Notes:
The contract for this position is a consultant contract at Level 2 - Middle, with a duration of 12 months. The position is open to external candidates and will be remote-based, meaning candidates can work from their location while maintaining regular communication with the UNESCO Responsible Officer. Candidates must indicate their country of residence and the regions within India or South Asia where they are available for assignments.
