Job Overview:
The National Consultant will play a crucial role in the execution of various work packages related to the Restoring Landscapes in South Africa (ReLISA) project. This project aims to apply natural capital accounting to measure, value, and advocate for restoration activities. The consultant will be responsible for consolidating and coordinating information on the implementation progress across consortium partners and project landscapes. This includes ensuring timely and coherent project monitoring and reporting inputs for UNEP and the International Climate Initiative (IKI). The consultant will also facilitate improved coordination and information exchange among consortium partners and relevant stakeholders, systematically organizing and synthesizing project information, research outputs, and implementation evidence. The position requires the preparation of well-documented materials supporting project governance and decision-making processes, which are essential for the effective implementation of the ReLISA project.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the National Consultant include: a) Coordinating and consolidating information on ReLISA implementation, including activities, milestones, partner responsibilities, and progress across project landscapes, while highlighting key issues and areas requiring follow-up. b) Compiling and consolidating inputs from consortium partners for project monitoring and reporting, preparing concise updates and reporting inputs for UNEP and the donor. c) Coordinating information and substantive preparations for project and stakeholder engagements, including agendas, background information, and briefing materials required for meetings. d) Maintaining and curating the ReLISA project information and knowledge repository, ensuring that key project documents and materials are organized and accessible. e) Tracking progress and consolidating outputs from UNEP-commissioned research and technical assignments, preparing brief summaries of findings and their implications for ReLISA implementation. f) Preparing materials and documentation for project governance processes, including Project Steering Committee meetings, and maintaining records of key decisions and actions.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent as a minimum qualification. A first-level degree with a specialization in environmental geoinformatics, environmental management, sustainable development, applied economics, agriculture, or related fields is considered an added advantage. Candidates should have a minimum of five years of experience working with governments, non-governmental organizations, or research institutions, focusing on environment and development. Experience with donor-funded project reporting, including the collection and consolidation of partner inputs and reporting against indicators, is desirable. Familiarity with the United Nations system or other international organizations is also preferred, along with experience in ecosystem restoration, natural capital assessment, biodiversity, climate change, or sustainable finance projects in South Africa.

Educational Background:
Candidates are expected to have at least a high school diploma or equivalent. A first-level degree in relevant fields such as environmental geoinformatics, environmental management, sustainable development, applied economics, or agriculture is preferred and would enhance the candidate's suitability for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant experience working with governments, NGOs, or research institutions, particularly in areas related to environment and development. Experience with donor-funded projects, including reporting and documentation, is essential. Familiarity with the United Nations system or international organizations is desirable, as is experience in ecosystem restoration and related fields.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for this position, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is also beneficial, as it is another working language of the UN.
