The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Accra is part of a global network of United Nations Information Centres (UNICs) managed by the United Nations Department of Global Communications (DGC). UNIC Accra serves as the principal source of information about the United Nations system in Nigeria and collaborates closely with various stakeholders including the United Nations Country Team (UNCT), UN agencies, media organizations, civil society, educational institutions, youth networks, and digital communities. The mission of UNIC Accra is to promote awareness and understanding of the work and priorities of the United Nations, particularly in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Agenda 203
  • The organization aims to enhance the visibility of the UN's efforts in Ghana and to foster engagement with the local community through various communication initiatives and projects.

Job Overview:
The Graphic Design Intern will play a crucial role in supporting UNIC Accra’s visual communication projects and initiatives across multiple media platforms. The intern will be responsible for developing high-quality infographic materials and formatted designs that will help raise awareness and inspire action on the SDGs and Agenda 203
  • This position is integral to the implementation of the global UN communication strategy at the national level, working closely with the Resident Coordinator and the UN Country Team in Ghana. The intern will report directly to the National Information Office (NIO) at UNIC Accra and will be expected to contribute creatively to various visual communication projects, thereby strengthening the visibility of the United Nations in Ghana.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the NIO, the intern will assist in a variety of functions including: designing themes, infographics, layouts, and covers for documents; developing figures, including colors, fonts, graphics, and layouts for materials such as newsletters, brochures, banners, posters, flyers, and booklets; creating graphic templates for reports and presentations; preparing printing packages for various publications and communication products; delivering creative and innovative ideas for print, web, and interactive presentations; providing technical solutions for the use of new media; creating animations for illustrative purposes; maintaining templates in software such as InDesign, CorelDraw, Publisher, Word, and PowerPoint; providing videographic and photographic support to the UN Information Centre; establishing and maintaining a photo and video library; and performing any other duties as requested.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Additionally, applicants should possess familiarity with major social media platforms and digital engagement practices, basic skills in Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut or similar multimedia editing tools, and the ability to use Microsoft Office applications and digital collaboration tools. An understanding of trends in Ghana’s digital media ecosystem is desirable, and an interest in information integrity, countering misinformation, and ethical digital communications is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
Applicants should have a university degree in or be studying towards a university degree in Communication, Graphic Design, or Multimedia, with a demonstrated interest in visual communication, digital content, or media production. They must be a student in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. Programme. Proof of meeting these criteria will be required during the application process.

Experience:

This means that relevant coursework or projects that demonstrate skills in graphic design, communication, or multimedia production will be beneficial.

Languages:
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in French is required, as it is essential for effective communication within the UN framework. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable and may enhance the candidate's profile.
