Job Overview:
The Galileo Lead Space Segment Engineer will play a crucial role within the G2B Space Segment Management Services at the Galileo Space Segment Management Office. This position involves leading and coordinating the design, development, implementation, and validation of subsystems and units that are integral to the navigation payload of the Galileo Second Generation satellites. The engineer will oversee the entire lifecycle of the project, from the initial phases of specification and design through to the in-orbit commissioning and follow-up phases. This role requires a strong technical background in space segment engineering and the ability to manage complex industrial activities while ensuring compliance with technical and programmatic requirements. The engineer will also be responsible for regular reporting to project management and identifying technical risks, proposing mitigation measures, and ensuring the timely delivery of project milestones.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Galileo Lead Space Segment Engineer include: leading the specification, design, procurement, development, and verification of spacecraft and payload hardware; monitoring industrial progress and ensuring design consistency with requirements; overseeing verification activities and resolving non-conformances; coordinating with project teams during integration and testing; contributing to the autonomy and operability concept; managing the schedule and proposing risk mitigation actions; preparing for launch and coordinating in-flight commissioning; leading a team of engineers; managing satellite budgets; and participating in project reviews. The engineer will also work closely with system security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security engineers and ground segment engineers to ensure project success.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a master's degree in electrical engineering or a related field, along with a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience. Alternatively, candidates with a bachelor's degree and an additional four years of relevant experience may be considered. A minimum of 10 years of experience in payload engineering, AIT, or test beds is required, with at least 5 years in navigation. Candidates should have experience in navigation payload design, system budget and performance analyses, and verification and validation concepts.

Educational Background:
A master's degree in electrical engineering is required for this position. Candidates with a bachelor's degree in a related field may also be considered if they have additional relevant experience. The educational background should include a strong foundation in engineering principles, particularly those related to space segment engineering and navigation systems.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 10 years of experience in payload engineering, AIT, or test beds, with at least 5 years specifically in navigation. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing and monitoring industrial activities in ESA project environments and experience in navigation payload design and verification.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is one of the working languages of ESA. Knowledge of French is also required. Additionally, knowledge of another Member State language would be considered an asset, enhancing communication within the diverse international team.

Additional Notes:
The position is a four-year appointment, extendable to indefinite, and falls within the grade band A2-A
  • Recruitment will be conducted within this grade band, but candidates with less than four years of relevant experience may be considered for a lower grade.
