Online Volunteers for Communications and Social Media
Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
UN Women is a United Nations entity dedicated to advancing women's rights, gender equality, and the empowerment of all women and girls. Established to lead global efforts on gender equality, UN Women focuses on shifting laws, institutions, social norms, and services to close the gender gap. The organization operates in over 160 countries and is committed to placing the rights of women and girls at the center of global progress. The Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs), managed by UN Women, serve as a global initiative to guide businesses in promoting gender equality and women's empowerment across various sectors.
Job Overview:
The WEPs Secretariat is looking for three highly motivated and creative Online Volunteers to assist with global communications, advocacy, and community engagement activities. This role is designed for individuals who are eager to gain practical experience in supporting communications for a significant UN Women initiative. Volunteers will contribute to global advocacy efforts aimed at enhancing private sector engagement in gender equality. The position involves amplifying gender equality stories and solutions from businesses worldwide through various WEPs channels, including LinkedIn, the WEPs website, and newsletters. Volunteers will work remotely as part of a small, dynamic team at UN Women Headquarters, allowing for flexible collaboration and engagement with colleagues across different offices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Online Volunteers will be responsible for several key tasks:
Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and have a creative mindset for developing engaging content. Familiarity with social media platforms, particularly LinkedIn, is essential. Volunteers should be able to work independently and collaboratively within a remote team environment. A proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to adapt to changing priorities are also important. Experience in communications, marketing, or a related field is preferred, but not mandatory.
Educational Background:
A background in communications, marketing, public relations, gender studies, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a strong understanding of gender equality issues and the role of the private sector in promoting women's empowerment. Relevant coursework or training in digital communications, social media management, or content creation will be advantageous.
Experience:
While prior experience in communications or social media management is beneficial, it is not strictly required. The organization welcomes volunteers who are eager to learn and contribute to the mission of advancing gender equality. Experience in working with non-profit organizations or in advocacy roles will be considered an asset.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all communications will be conducted in English. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the regions where WEPs operates, would be considered a plus, enhancing the ability to engage with a diverse audience.
Additional Notes:
This is a remote volunteer position, allowing for flexibility in work hours. The duration of the contract is not specified, but volunteers are expected to commit to the tasks outlined during their assignment period. The role is designed for individuals seeking to gain experience in a global organization and contribute to meaningful advocacy efforts for gender equality.
