Job Overview:

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for gathering and analyzing data to support specialists and managers, contributing to the design, review, and supervision of mechanical engineering aspects of projects. This position requires interpreting basic rules and procedures, making initial recommendations based on straightforward analysis, and preparing inputs for reports and other documents, thereby providing the first level of 'thought leadership' in the mechanical engineering domain. The incumbent will also engage in various aspects of mechanical and plumbing engineering support, project assessment, quality assurance, and software and administrative support, ensuring that all engineering activities align with established project requirements and quality standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Mechanical and Plumbing Engineering Support: The Mechanical Engineer will support the coordination and monitoring of the installation of mechanical systems associated with potable water supply and irrigation infrastructure, including pumps, pumping equipment, pipework, valves, and associated mechanical components. They will provide technical inputs to the project team and logistics division in the procurement of mechanical machinery and equipment, prepare and contribute to the design and review of mechanical installations, and assist in preparing and evaluating tender documents for mechanical/plumbing engineering services. The engineer will also prepare mechanical and plumbing engineering calculations, support equipment selection, and contribute to the development of scopes of work.
• Project Assessment and Quality Assurance: The engineer will support the project team in reviewing design briefs and design reports, ensuring alignment with established project requirements and quality standards. They will participate in site inspections and technical assessments, delivering assigned technical outputs within agreed timelines and quality requirements.
• Software and Administrative Support: The Mechanical Engineer will apply drafting and modeling software, including Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit, for the preparation and review of mechanical and plumbing engineering documentation, support the organization and archiving of engineering documentation, and perform other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering design, supervision, and/or construction for medium- to large-scale infrastructure or construction projects. Candidates should have demonstrated experience using AutoCAD for the preparation and/or review of mechanical drawings and experience using HAP or equivalent mechanical engineering design software. Proficiency in standard office applications and relevant mechanical engineering software/tools is also required. Desired qualifications include a License/Board Certification in Mechanical Engineering and work experience with international organizations or UN agencies.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. A License or Board Certification in Mechanical Engineering is desired but not mandatory. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in mechanical engineering principles, design, and application.

Experience:
The position requires at least 2 years of experience in mechanical engineering design, supervision, and/or construction for medium- to large-scale infrastructure or construction projects. Candidates should have experience in project assessment, design, and supervision in rehabilitation or construction projects, as well as demonstrated experience using AutoCAD and relevant mechanical engineering software. Experience working within the Syrian context and targeted areas is considered an added advantage.

Languages:
Proficiency in English at an intermediate level is required, while fluency in Arabic is also required. Knowledge of additional languages may be beneficial but is not mandatory.

The contract type for this position is ICA - LICA - Specialist - Retainer, with a contract level of LICA

• The position is classified at the Associate seniority level, and the duration of the contract is one year, comprising 180 working days for the entire duration.
