Job Overview:
The Technical Specialist (Protection) will play a crucial role under the supervision of the Chief of Party, contributing to the development, implementation, and technical coordination of the FCDO funded consortia program in Sudan. This position is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality technical services in collaboration with consortium partners. The Technical Specialist will focus on enhancing risk mitigation, response, and prevention activities, particularly in the contextualization of social norm methodologies. The role involves the harmonization and rollout of tools, guidelines, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for case management, as well as continuous capacity building and ensuring adherence to standard donor and data analysis/reporting methods. Additionally, the Technical Specialist will be instrumental in harmonizing safeguarding mechanisms and processes within the consortium.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The main responsibilities of the Technical Specialist include providing coordination and direction to the consortium on technical activities, ensuring a coherent technical strategy that meets the needs of the project beneficiaries while implementing necessary safeguarding measures. The Specialist will provide regular technical support and guidance to consortium technical focal points to enhance the capacity of protection teams in delivering high-quality GBV mitigation, prevention, and response services. Responsibilities also include coordinating the rollout of GBV case management SOPs, enhancing GBV prevention efforts, supporting partners in developing gender-sensitive awareness messaging, ensuring minimum standards of capacity and awareness on GBV referrals, and conducting field visits to monitor implementation quality. The Specialist will also oversee data collection management systems for GBV protection activities, review technical activities for donor reports, and stay updated on developments impacting the protection environment in Sudan. Furthermore, the Specialist will lead capacity-building initiatives, develop training materials, and coordinate project design and cycle management activities, ensuring adherence to GBV minimum standards and relevant SOPs.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess proven experience of at least 5 years in humanitarian protection and GBV programming, particularly in the context of Sudan. They should have experience in gender analysis, developing gender-sensitive assessments, and monitoring tools. Knowledge of information management for GBV, including data collection and analysis, is essential. Candidates should also have experience in capacity building on Psychological First Aid (PFA) and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Psychosocial Support (PSS), as well as the ability to provide technical guidance and deliver participatory training. Understanding of PSEAH/Safeguarding concepts and mechanisms is required, along with strong report writing and data analysis skills. Excellent communication, coordination, negotiation, and representation skills are also necessary, as is the ability to work independently and flexibly within a diverse team.
Educational Background:
A university degree relevant to humanitarian work is required, preferably in law, social work, gender studies, social sciences, or humanitarian aid. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of humanitarian protection and GBV programming.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in humanitarian protection and GBV programming, with a strong emphasis on practical application in the field. Candidates should demonstrate a history of working effectively in challenging environments, particularly in conflict-affected areas, and should have experience in capacity building and training within a consortium or collaborative framework.
Languages:
Fluency in both English and Arabic, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. This bilingual capability is essential for effective communication with diverse stakeholders and for the successful implementation of programs in Sudan. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.

The position is a national contract with a duration of 12 months, based in Port Sudan or Khartoum. The salary range starts from USD 2,300.00, and the role includes benefits such as two bonuses during Eid festivals, national social insurance, medical insurance allowance, and opportunities for professional growth and development.
