Job Overview:
The Hydrogen Specialist position is integral to the implementation of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Readiness project titled 'Advancing a Regional Approach to the Green Hydrogen Economy in Latin America and the Caribbean' specifically for Jamaica. This role focuses on fostering an interinstitutional working group that will create enabling conditions for a robust green hydrogen ecosystem in Jamaica. The specialist will work closely with the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation - Climate Change Division of Jamaica, under the supervision of UNEP’s Programme Management Officer for Energy Efficiency. The position is remote, allowing for flexibility while ensuring effective collaboration with local stakeholders. The specialist will be responsible for engaging various sectors, organizing meetings, and providing technical advice to ensure the successful development of a strategic action plan for green hydrogen.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Hydrogen Specialist will undertake several key responsibilities, including:

• Establishing and nurturing relationships with national public, private, and civil society actors to ensure their involvement in the project.
• Actively soliciting feedback from all sectors regarding proposals and initiatives.
• Organizing logistics and content for meetings, ensuring comprehensive participation and alignment with the project's objectives.
• Addressing the needs of national authorities and providing technical guidance as necessary.
• Participating in meetings and calls with the Project Manager, National Designated Authority (NDA) to the GCF, and other stakeholders.
• Collaborating with civil society and private sector initiatives to strengthen their contributions to the project.
• Promoting knowledge exchange and leadership among government authorities, civil society, and the private sector.
• Performing any additional tasks as directed by the supervisor. The expected outcomes include the planning and facilitation of at least three meetings of the National Inter-Institutional Working Group on Green Hydrogen, preparing necessary documentation, and ensuring active engagement from all stakeholders involved.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of environmental policies, particularly in relation to green hydrogen and renewable energy. They should demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders effectively. A proven track record in project management, particularly in environmental or energy-related projects, is essential. Additionally, candidates should exhibit strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently in a remote setting, while also being a team player.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is required, typically a degree in environmental science, renewable energy, engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees or specialized training in energy policy or sustainable development would be advantageous, as they provide a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in transitioning to a green hydrogen economy.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in environmental management, energy policy, or related fields. Experience working with governmental and non-governmental organizations, particularly in the context of climate change and renewable energy projects, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the Green Climate Fund and its operational procedures would be a significant asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication for this position. Proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable, given the regional context and the need to engage with stakeholders in Latin America and the Caribbean. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not required.
