Job Overview:
The Emergency Field Coordinator position is crucial for FAO's response to food security and agricultural challenges in Bangladesh, particularly in the context of climate change and disaster risks. The role involves leading emergency agriculture and livestock response efforts, conducting needs and damage assessments, managing input distribution, and rehabilitating livelihoods. The Emergency Field Coordinator will work closely with various stakeholders, including government authorities and partners, to ensure effective implementation of project activities aimed at building resilience among vulnerable communities. This position requires a proactive approach to engage with farmers, monitor project progress, and adapt strategies to meet the evolving needs of the communities served. The Emergency Field Coordinator will also be responsible for establishing Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) and farmer aggregation centers, ensuring that project inputs are distributed effectively and efficiently.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Emergency Field Coordinator will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including: providing technical guidance on livelihood diversification and climate-resilient practices; leading the establishment of VSLAs and farmer aggregation centers; coordinating field-level implementation of project activities; liaising with service providers for timely delivery of project inputs; developing monitoring and assessment tools; coordinating with the MEAL Coordinator for effective monitoring and data quality; maintaining communication with government departments and stakeholders; documenting lessons learned and success stories; conducting regular field visits for supervision and monitoring; ensuring dissemination of feedback mechanisms among beneficiaries; and performing other relevant duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Agriculture, Economics, Disaster Management, Development Studies, or a related field. A minimum of 7 years of experience in areas such as agriculture, emergency response, climate resilience, and community-based development projects is required. Candidates should have a working knowledge of English (Level C) and must be of Bangladeshi nationality. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate competencies in results focus, teamwork, communication, and building effective relationships, as well as technical skills in emergency response and community self-reliance.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as Agriculture, Economics, Disaster Management, or Development Studies. Higher educational qualifications must be obtained from institutions accredited or recognized in the World Higher Education Database (WHED).
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in agriculture, emergency response, climate resilience, monitoring and reporting, and community-based development projects. Candidates should have experience in project implementation and monitoring, as well as documentation and survey design.
Languages:
A working knowledge of English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an advantage, particularly in the context of local dialects or languages spoken in the regions where the projects are implemented.
Additional Notes:
This position is classified as a National Project Personnel (NPP) assignment at the SC-7 grade level. The Emergency Field Coordinator will report to the FAO Representative in Bangladesh and work closely with various specialists.
