Job Overview:
The Global Health security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security (GHS) Technical Advisor I – Zoonoses & AMR will play a crucial role in providing technical leadership and strategic guidance for the STRengthening Infectious Disease DEtection Systems (STRIDES) project in Liberia. This position is focused on enhancing zoonotic and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance in both human and animal populations. The advisor will work closely with government partners, including ministries responsible for livestock and health, to improve cross-sectoral coordination and implement national and subnational initiatives aimed at strengthening integrated zoonotic disease and AMR surveillance. The advisor will also contribute to project design, budgeting, and recruitment efforts, ensuring that project activities align with national strategies and global health security priorities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The GHS Technical Advisor will be responsible for providing technical expertise in human and animal health, zoonotic disease, and AMR surveillance. Key duties include advising on the design and implementation of human and animal disease laboratories, supporting the development and review of surveillance plans and diagnostic SOPs, and providing training to health laboratories. The advisor will also support surveillance activities for priority zoonotic diseases and AMR, integrate animal health data into national surveillance platforms, and collaborate with various stakeholders to advance integrated surveillance systems. Additionally, the advisor will conduct supportive supervision, monitor project implementation, prepare technical reports, and ensure adherence to quality systems in laboratories.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong technical knowledge in zoonoses and AMR, with a solid understanding of global health security principles. Proficiency in project management, the ability to set realistic priorities, and excellent communication skills are essential. The advisor should have experience in diagnostics, surveillance, epidemiology, and cross-sectoral implementation. Familiarity with relevant computer software, including MS Office, is required, along with the ability to manage work to performance standards.
Educational Background:
An advanced degree (master’s degree or higher) in Public Health (MPH), Epidemiology, Veterinary Science, International Health Microbiology, Infectious Disease, or a related field is required. A bachelor's degree in Human/Veterinary Medicine or a related field, accompanied by extensive relevant experience, is also acceptable. Additional qualifications or certifications in public health or related areas are advantageous.
Experience:
Typically, candidates should have at least 8 years of relevant experience in the technical implementation of large public health or animal health projects, particularly those focusing on zoonotic diseases and veterinary public health. Demonstrated experience in providing technical assistance, capacity building, and business development in the specific technical domain is essential. Prior work experience in NGOs, government agencies, or private organizations is preferred, along with experience in program development or management.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with strong writing and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of additional languages may be beneficial but is not required.
Additional Notes:
This position is full-time and may require travel of 10% to 25%. FHI 360 offers a competitive compensation package, with an expected hiring salary range of USD 35,000 - 50,000 annually.
