Job Overview:
The position involves translating content from English to Chinese for the Youth and United Nations Global Alliance (YUNGA), which is hosted by FAO. The translations will focus on making educational resources accessible to Chinese-speaking communities, particularly in relation to sustainable development topics. The role is crucial for enhancing multilingual outreach and ensuring that language barriers do not hinder young people's engagement in sustainability efforts. The Online Volunteers will work collaboratively to translate various documents, including the YUNGA website and multiple Challenge Badges, which cover topics such as food, nutrition, biodiversity, climate change, and responsible consumption. This initiative aims to empower youth by providing them with the knowledge and tools to address global sustainability challenges.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Translate the content of the YUNGA website (approximately 10 Word pages) from English to Chinese.
  • Translate the Green Cities Challenge Badge (110 pages) from English to Chinese.
  • Translate the Pollinators Challenge Badge (170 pages) from English to Chinese.
  • Translate the Energy Challenge Badge (100 pages) from English to Chinese.
  • Translate the Food Loss and Waste Challenge Badge (90 pages) from English to Chinese.
  • Ensure that all translations are concise, adhere to FAO communications guidelines, and are appropriate for the target audience.
  • Collaborate with other Online Volunteers to divide the translation workload effectively, considering the length and complexity of each document.
  • Maintain communication with FAO representatives for guidance and clarification as needed throughout the translation process.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in both English and Chinese, with strong translation skills.
  • Familiarity with sustainable development concepts and terminology.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality translations.
  • Experience in translating educational or technical materials is an advantage.

Educational Background:
A background in languages, translation, environmental studies, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a strong understanding of sustainable development issues and the ability to communicate effectively in both English and Chinese.

Experience:
Previous experience in translation, particularly in the context of educational or sustainability-related content, is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of producing accurate and culturally relevant translations.

Languages:
Mandatory: Proficiency in English and Chinese. Good to have: Knowledge of additional languages related to the target audience may be beneficial but is not required.
