Job Overview:
The Information Management Officer - Protection will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of protection-related data management across DRC Ethiopia's projects. Reporting to the Program Development and Quality Manager (PDQM), the officer will be responsible for the collection, analysis, and dissemination of protection information in a sensitive and professional manner. This position requires a proactive approach to support field teams in improving the quality of protection data and ensuring timely reporting and analysis. The officer will also contribute to the development of evidence-based protection interventions and measure the impact of protection projects, thereby directly influencing the effectiveness of DRC's humanitarian response in Ethiopia.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The main duties and responsibilities of the Information Management Officer - Protection include:
  • Developing and maintaining DRC Ethiopia's protection database and MEAL information management systems.
  • Supporting the rollout of standardized protection databases and information management systems across DRC Ethiopia's protection activities, including case management and protection monitoring.
  • Ensuring the maintenance of databases containing confidential information while adhering to strict data security protocols.
  • Compiling and disseminating information for various protection-related materials, including reports and analyses.
  • Providing timely and high-quality protection reporting for both internal and external audiences.
  • Assisting the Protection Specialist in maintaining and developing KOBO forms and ActivityInfo, while supporting field teams in data collection.
  • Leading the adoption of data analytics and visualization tools such as Advanced Excel, Power BI, and Tableau.
  • Conducting field visits to monitor PIM activities and provide capacity-building support.
  • Enhancing DRC staff's knowledge and capacity in data management and analysis. 1
  • Supporting general information management priorities as requested by the Protection Coordinator and other relevant teams.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess at least 3 years of experience working with an NGO or UN agency, with a minimum of 2 years in an operational setting. They should have experience in developing and managing information systems in humanitarian contexts, as well as compiling information for external dissemination. A strong understanding of humanitarian, displacement, and protection issues is essential, along with proficiency in research and data management techniques. Familiarity with data collection and analysis tools, including ActivityInfo, Kobo, and Power BI, is highly desirable. Previous experience with protection-related databases is also preferred.

Educational Background:
A relevant bachelor's degree or qualification in information systems, communications, social sciences, or a related field is required for this position. Additional certifications or training in data management or protection-related topics would be advantageous.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 3 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, specifically with NGOs or UN agencies. At least 2 years of this experience should be in an operational setting, demonstrating a strong background in information management and data analysis within humanitarian contexts.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory, along with proficiency in other local languages being an advantage. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in both languages to engage with diverse stakeholders and communities.
