Job Overview:
The consultant will be responsible for developing a one-hour training module focused on the implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) for gender-responsive statistical leadership. This module is intended for senior statistical leaders and will be delivered during the Asia-Pacific Statistics Week 2026 in Bangkok. The training aims to equip participants with the knowledge to assess their organizations' readiness for AI adoption and to identify necessary leadership decisions and reforms. The consultant will ensure that the content is accessible, using plain language and an executive-learning approach, while aligning with the broader objectives of the leadership training. The module will also contribute to the ongoing capacity-building efforts within national statistical systems, emphasizing the importance of gender mainstreaming and women's leadership in statistical practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant's responsibilities include finalizing the training approach and workplan in consultation with UN Women, developing draft module content and materials, and incorporating feedback from UN Women teams. The consultant will create a concise executive orientation to AI, framing its adoption as a gender-responsive institutional transformation agenda. They will assess institutional readiness, examine gender bias in AI systems, and identify actions to prevent AI from reinforcing inequalities. The consultant will also align the module with current regional and global efforts, develop an interactive self-assessment tool, curate real-world case studies, and produce facilitator-ready materials suitable for both remote and in-person delivery. Key tasks include finalizing learning objectives, developing draft content, finalizing the module, and delivering the training module remotely, followed by a debrief with UN Women.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree in International Development, Social Sciences, International Relations, Gender Studies, Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Computer Science, or related fields. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. The consultant should have a minimum of 7 years of professional experience in gender or inclusive statistics, including experience in capacity building and developing related learning materials. Experience in teaching and communicating gender statistical content to diverse audiences is required, along with demonstrated research experience on gender issues and a working understanding of AI and ML. Familiarity with the UN System is advantageous, and experience leading research teams is essential.

Educational Background:
An advanced degree in relevant fields such as International Development, Social Sciences, International Relations, Gender Studies, Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, or Computer Science is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree with additional qualifying experience may be accepted. The educational background should reflect a strong foundation in gender studies and statistical analysis, as well as an understanding of AI and its implications for gender equality.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 7 years of professional experience in gender or inclusive statistics. Candidates should have experience facilitating capacity-building activities and developing learning materials. Experience in teaching and communicating gender statistical content to various audiences, including international and government stakeholders, is essential. Demonstrated experience in conducting research on gender issues, along with a working understanding of AI and ML, is highly desired. Experience with the UN System and leading teams of researchers is also required.

Languages:
Excellent communication and writing skills in English are mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they are relevant to the regions where UN Women operates. The ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences is crucial for the success of the training module.

Additional Notes:
This consultancy is home-based, meaning the consultant is not expected to travel. The contract duration is tied to the development and delivery of the training module, with specific deadlines for each phase of the project.
