Job Overview: The Associate Communications Officer is tasked with maintaining relationships with various stakeholders, including management, other communications specialists, and external partners. This role involves planning and coordinating communication activities, supporting reporting efforts, and providing updates on activities. The officer will also engage with counterparts in UN agencies, government officials, civil society, and media to build partnerships and coordinate activities. The position requires a proactive approach to creating compelling content, managing communications strategies, and supporting outreach and advocacy efforts to advance UN priorities. The officer will work under the direct supervision of the Head of the Resident Coordinator Office and will be responsible for ensuring effective communication across various platforms and channels.
Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible for gathering insights from media monitoring, implementing communications strategies, drafting narratives, and fostering relationships with media outlets. They will contribute to the planning of press events, act as a spokesperson when necessary, and create content optimized for target audiences. The officer will also draft communications products, develop strategic partnerships, and deliver outreach strategies. Additional responsibilities include monitoring and analyzing communications activities, maintaining confidentiality, and reporting on the effectiveness of communication strategies. The role requires collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to maximize impact and ensure alignment with UN priorities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong writing and speaking skills, critical thinking abilities, and knowledge of digital design. They should demonstrate professionalism, planning and organizing skills, teamwork, and creativity. The ability to analyze data and convey information effectively is essential. The candidate should also show a commitment to gender perspectives and equal participation in all areas of work. The role demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, digital communications, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. Completion of programs in data analytics or related fields is an advantage.
Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in communications, international relations, or relevant areas is required. Candidates should have the ability to develop and implement communications strategies, write for digital platforms, and communicate complex matters to diverse audiences. Knowledge of current digital media platforms and skills in data visualization are also required. Experience in data analytics or related areas is desirable, as is the ability to develop and deliver training and workshops.
Languages: English is the required working language for this position, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level III in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Spanish is desirable, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level II in all skills.
Additional Notes: This is a Fixed Term position available for a duration of one year, with no expectation of renewal. The appointment is subject to budgetary approval and the availability of the post. The position is open to nationals of Belize only, and candidates must be of the nationality of the country where the position is located.
