The World Resources Institute (WRI) is an independent research organization founded to improve people's lives, protect and restore nature, and stabilize the climate. Established with a mission to leverage data, expertise, and global reach to influence policy and catalyze change across various systems, WRI operates in over a dozen focus countries and collaborates with partners in more than 50 nations. With a workforce of over 2,000 staff, WRI emphasizes independence, integrity, impact, partnership, and care as its core values. The organization is committed to advancing gender and social equity, ensuring equal opportunities in employment, and fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace.

Job Overview:
The FP&A Manager position is a critical role within the WRI Europe office, which is currently expanding. This position will lead the financial planning and analysis efforts that are essential for the regional finance function. The successful candidate will report directly to the Regional Manager of Accounting and Finance for Europe and will be responsible for the budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting cycles for WRI Europe entities. This role involves working with multiple currencies and legal entities, specifically the Netherlands Stichting and the UK Branch, and requires a strong understanding of financial operations in a multi-entity environment. The FP&A Manager will also play a key role in ensuring compliance with grant financial requirements and will collaborate closely with various teams across the organization to support efficient financial operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The FP&A Manager will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
  • Planning, Budgeting, and Analysis (40%): Building and maintaining the annual budget for WRI Europe entities, preparing periodic forecasts, producing monthly and quarterly budget-versus-actual reports, reconciling budget and forecast data against actuals, preparing cash-flow forecasts, and maintaining planning assumptions.
  • Allocations, Cost Recovery, and Month-End (20%): Monitoring allocated cost lines, supporting the calculation of fringe and occupancy rates, coordinating expense tracking, supporting monthly close processes, and preparing information for audits.
  • Grants and Donor Compliance (25%): Supporting financial elements of donor proposals, reviewing donor budgets, ensuring compliance with financial reporting requirements, and maintaining accurate records in Salesforce and SharePoint.
  • Systems, Data Quality, and Process (15%): Supporting the configuration of accounting systems, monitoring data quality, contributing to the maintenance of the Accounting Handbook, and identifying opportunities for process improvements.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a bachelor's or master’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. An accounting qualification such as ACCA, CPA, or CMA is advantageous. Additionally, candidates should have full-time relevant experience with accounting processes, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis. Strong financial modeling skills in Excel, experience with multi-entity budgeting, and familiarity with donor-funded projects are also required. Knowledge of Dutch accounting regulations and reporting requirements for not-for-profit entities is desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include a completed bachelor's or master’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. An accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CMA, or equivalent) is considered an advantage and may enhance a candidate's application.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have substantial experience in accounting processes, year-end closing work, and audit procedures. They should demonstrate competence in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis, particularly in building and maintaining budgets rather than merely reporting against them. Experience working with donor-funded projects or grants within an international NGO context is also desirable, especially familiarity with donor eligibility rules and indirect cost recovery.

Languages:
Verbal and written proficiency in English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in Dutch is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate communication and understanding within the local context of the Netherlands.

Additional Notes:
This position is a hybrid role, requiring approximately two days a week in the office, with The Hague as the preferred location, although London is also an option. The contract is initially for one year, with the possibility of extension. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application, as WRI cannot sponsor visa work sponsorship for this position. The potential salary for this role, if based in the Netherlands, ranges from €63,000 to €79,000, excluding an 8% vacation allowance, while the salary in the UK ranges from £54,000 to £68,00
  • WRI offers a commitment to a hybrid working model, generous leave days that increase with tenure, and access to a global network for professional development.
