Job Overview:
The Estonian National Graduate Trainee in Advanced Materials and Process Engineering position is designed for recent Master’s graduates who are looking to gain practical experience in the field of space-related disciplines. This role is part of the ESA National Graduate Trainee (NGT) Programmes, which provide a unique opportunity to work within the agency while being funded by an individual ESA Member State. The selected candidate will be involved in various projects related to advanced materials and manufacturing processes, particularly focusing on the qualification of materials for space applications. The position will require collaboration with different teams and sections within ESA, particularly the Materials and Processes Section at ESTEC, to support the development and certification of new materials and manufacturing technologies. The trainee will also engage in research and development activities aimed at improving manufacturing processes and materials performance for space missions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Estonian National Graduate Trainee include: conducting research on advanced materials and manufacturing processes; performing testing and evaluation of materials for space applications; collaborating with the Materials and Processes Section to ensure compliance with ESA standards; assisting in the development of innovative manufacturing technologies; participating in the qualification of materials for space flight; conducting failure investigations of materials impacting ESA missions; supporting the establishment of requirements and standards for space-grade materials; maintaining the European Space Materials Database; and contributing to the Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory's initiatives, including smart manufacturing and digital technologies.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in material science, with a focus on metallic, polymeric, and/or composite materials. They should have a solid understanding of relevant technical domains and demonstrate knowledge of the space sector and ESA's programs. Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment. Previous experience in international teams is considered an asset, and candidates should be motivated and have clear career goals.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a completed or nearly completed Master's degree in material science or a related field. The degree should cover various aspects of materials, including metallic, polymeric, and composite materials, to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to succeed in the role.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have relevant experience, which can be gained through internships, project work, or extracurricular activities. While specific years of experience are not mandated, any practical experience in materials science or related fields will be beneficial.
