Job Overview:
The Ground Segment Product Engineer position is situated within the Ground Segment Section of the Technology and Products Division at ESA. The role involves overseeing telecommunications ground and user segment technology and products. The engineer will be responsible for initiating, monitoring, and controlling product development activities related to satellite communications. This includes managing the implementation of activities, assessing business cases, conducting industry roadmap meetings, and identifying product needs and innovation opportunities. The engineer will also support market intelligence studies and contribute to strategic initiatives, ensuring effective management of activities through coordination with other ESA units. This position requires a proactive approach to fostering cooperation and continuous improvement in the development of satellite communication systems.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a master’s degree in a relevant domain, complemented by at least four years of relevant professional experience. Alternatively, candidates with a bachelor’s degree and an additional four years of relevant experience may also be considered. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing product development activities, knowledge of ESA and industrial processes, and familiarity with satellite communication ground segment architecture and market dynamics. Strong negotiation skills and experience in contract management are also essential.
Educational Background:
A master’s degree in a relevant field is required for this position. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree may be considered if they have additional relevant experience. The educational background should ideally include studies in engineering, telecommunications, or a related discipline that provides a solid foundation for understanding satellite communication technologies and market dynamics.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience in the field of satellite communications, particularly in managing product development activities. Candidates should have direct experience working with commercial telecommunications operators and a strong understanding of the European agency framework. Experience in ground segment technology, subsystem design, and development is highly desirable, as is familiarity with market trends and disruptive innovation strategies.
Languages:
The working languages of ESA are English and French. A good command of one of these languages is mandatory, while knowledge of another Member State language would be considered an asset. This linguistic requirement ensures effective communication within the diverse workforce of ESA and with international partners.
