Job Overview:
The CHAI Associate position is designed for a highly motivated individual who will support the national malaria program in Honduras, specifically in the department of Gracias a Dios. The role involves collaborating with local health authorities to enhance malaria surveillance, community-based case management, supply chain management, and vector control interventions. The associate will provide technical assistance, engage in programmatic planning, and utilize data for informed decision-making. This position requires a high level of independence and frequent travel to remote areas, as well as occasional international travel. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills, along with a commitment to CHAI's mission.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The CHAI Associate will be responsible for strengthening the capacity of the regional Ministry of Health's malaria program by selecting and implementing effective interventions aimed at malaria elimination. Key responsibilities include coordinating with local health partners and authorities, developing monthly operational plans, providing on-the-job training, measuring implementation progress, and reporting to the Country Program Manager. The associate will also design and evaluate interventions, support malaria case management activities, implement entomological surveillance, monitor inventory levels, and identify impediments to malaria elimination strategies. Additionally, the associate will explore new tools for malaria elimination, collaborate on epidemiological studies, support local health staff, and maintain relationships with health officials and partner organizations.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with at least 4 years of relevant experience in health-related fields such as biology, entomology, or community engagement. Experience in resource-limited areas is essential, along with strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. Candidates should demonstrate a strong work ethic, integrity, and interpersonal skills necessary for building relationships in challenging environments.
Educational Background:
A Master’s degree in public health, global health, epidemiology, biology, public administration, or a related field is preferred. A Bachelor’s degree in similar fields is acceptable if accompanied by relevant experience. Candidates should have a solid understanding of health systems and infectious diseases, particularly malaria.
Experience:
The position requires at least 2 years of relevant experience for candidates with a Master’s degree or 4 years for those with a Bachelor’s degree. Experience in executing health projects, particularly those related to malaria, is highly desirable. Familiarity with living and working in Latin America, especially Central America, is an advantage.
Languages:
Fluency in both Spanish and English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the region may be considered an asset.
