The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a global humanitarian organization that responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Established in 1933, the IRC has been providing assistance to refugees and displaced persons for over 90 years. The organization operates in over 40 countries and 26 U.S. cities, employing thousands of staff members who are dedicated to helping those in need. The IRC's mission is to help people affected by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and gain control of their future. They focus on providing health care, education, economic wellbeing, and safety to vulnerable populations, including refugees, asylees, and other displaced individuals.

Job Overview:
The Intensive Case Management (ICM) Caseworker plays a crucial role in addressing the barriers to safety and wellness faced by vulnerable populations, including refugees and asylees. This position requires a strengths-based, client-centered approach to case management, focusing on single-headed refugee households, survivors of domestic violence, older refugees, youth without guardians, and individuals with mental health or physical challenges. The ICM Caseworker will collaborate closely with clients to develop personalized service plans that cater to their unique needs and preferences, utilizing a wide array of resources and services. The role involves navigating complex healthcare and social service systems, conducting community outreach, and maintaining strong relationships with service providers and coordinators to ensure comprehensive support for clients. The ICM Caseworker will also be responsible for evaluating client progress and adapting service plans as necessary, ensuring that clients receive the assistance they need to achieve self-sufficiency and stability.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The ICM Caseworker's responsibilities include determining client eligibility for ICM programming, conducting intake assessments, and reviewing program expectations with potential clients. They will develop individualized SMART self-sufficiency plans for each client and evaluate progress every six months during active enrollment. The caseworker will assist clients in navigating healthcare and social service systems, including applying for benefits and scheduling appointments. Community outreach is essential, as the caseworker must maintain a robust network of service providers to meet client needs. They will provide clients with orientation on various topics, respond to crises, assist with financial assistance requests, and maintain accurate documentation in client case files. The caseworker may also train and lead volunteers and interns, and attend relevant trainings and meetings at both local and national levels. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the ICM Caseworker position should possess strong relationship-building skills, diplomacy, and networking abilities. They must demonstrate success in working within a multicultural environment and possess excellent problem-solving skills. Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation are critical, as is the ability to prioritize and manage time effectively. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and a valid driver's license with access to a personal vehicle are also required. Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is mandatory, while proficiency in languages spoken by the client group is preferred.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, or a related field of study is preferred for this position. Candidates with relevant educational backgrounds will be better equipped to understand the complexities of the populations served and the systems they must navigate.

Experience:
The ICM Caseworker position requires a minimum of 1-2 years of case management experience, particularly with similar populations and client needs. This experience is essential for understanding the challenges faced by refugees and asylees and for effectively providing the necessary support and resources.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required, both spoken and written. Proficiency in additional languages such as Arabic, French, Spanish, or Dari is considered a strong asset, as it enables better communication with diverse client groups and enhances service delivery.

Additional Notes:
This is a short-term role with an anticipated end date of December 31, 2026, and it is not eligible for IRC's full benefits package. However, U.S.-based short-term employees will have access to a 403(b) retirement savings plan with employer match, paid sick leave, and the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for mental health support. The working environment includes a combination of standard office settings, remote work, and field time, with occasional weekend or evening work required.
