Job Overview:
The Pharmacist position at the IRC involves providing strategic and technical leadership for pharmaceutical services within the health and nutrition program in South and West Kordofan, Sudan. This role is crucial in ensuring the availability, quality, safety, and appropriate use of essential medicines and health commodities in a challenging humanitarian context marked by insecurity, displacement, and limited pharmaceutical capacity. The Pharmacist will oversee the pharmaceutical supply chain, which includes responsibilities such as quantification, procurement support, quality assurance, storage, distribution, stock management, documentation, and reporting. Duties and Responsibilities:
Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Pharmacist position should possess a degree in Pharmacy (Bachelor’s or equivalent; a Master’s degree is an advantage). A valid registration and license to practice as a pharmacist in the country of qualification is desirable. Additionally, certification in health supply chain or medical logistics will be considered an added advantage. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of pharmaceutical management and health supply chain principles, particularly in humanitarian contexts.
Educational Background:
Candidates must have a degree in Pharmacy, with a Bachelor’s degree being the minimum requirement. A Master’s degree in a related field is preferred but not mandatory. Registration and a valid license to practice as a pharmacist in the relevant country are also essential qualifications for this role.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in pharmaceutical management, health supply chain management, or humanitarian health programming. Candidates should have a strong understanding of IRC systems and procedures, as well as demonstrated experience in pharmaceutical quantification, forecasting, procurement, and stock management. Experience in emergency preparedness and response is highly desirable, along with a proven ability to work in complex humanitarian environments.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in Arabic is highly desirable. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the operational context may be considered an advantage, as it can facilitate communication with local communities and stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Pharmaceutical Leadership and Programme Support: Provide overall technical leadership for pharmaceutical management across IRC's health and nutrition program. Develop and implement pharmaceutical strategies, systems, and risk-mitigation measures. Ensure that pharmaceutical needs are addressed in design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design and operational planning. Maintain the country-specific Essential Drug List and manage approval processes for medicines. Identify pharmaceutical risks and recommend measures to ensure quality and continuity of supplies.
- Supply Chain, Quantification and Quality Assurance: Lead pharmaceutical quantification and supply planning based on various factors such as consumption patterns and access constraints. Establish stock levels and reorder points, particularly for hard-to-reach areas. Provide technical support for procurement and supplier management. Strengthen Good Storage and Distribution Practices across warehouses and health facilities. Monitor stock levels and consumption trends to address supply risks.
- Facility Pharmaceutical Services and Continuity of Care: Strengthen pharmaceutical management systems in IRC-supported health facilities. Ensure appropriate availability and management of medicines. Promote rational use of medicines and support pharmacovigilance. Conduct assessments and provide technical support to maintain continuity of supplies.
- Emergency Preparedness and Supply Continuity: Support pharmaceutical preparedness for emergencies and develop contingency plans. Monitor supply risks and recommend mitigation measures. Work with teams to integrate pharmaceutical requirements into emergency plans.
- Capacity Strengthening and Systems Development: Assess training needs among pharmacy and health teams. Provide training and mentorship on pharmaceutical management. Strengthen the use of management information systems for data quality and decision-making.
- Data, Coordination and Representation: Strengthen reporting systems and monitor supply chain performance indicators. Analyze pharmaceutical data to identify gaps and inform decisions. Coordinate with health authorities and document lessons learned for program improvement.
