Job Overview:

The Deputy Director will be part of the division's management team, responsible for developing and implementing strategies, managing the ESC team, and ensuring high standards of research and advocacy. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Deputy Director will be tasked with designing and implementing a multi-year strategy for the ESC team, ensuring alignment with HRW's Global Strategy. Responsibilities include managing research projects, ensuring compliance with organizational standards, and coordinating with other divisions to advance advocacy efforts. The Deputy will represent HRW externally, fostering partnerships with local organizations and supporting fundraising initiatives. Additional duties include managing legal and security risks, mentoring staff, and contributing to a positive work environment that promotes diversity and inclusion. The role also involves travel for research and advocacy purposes, as well as undertaking other responsibilities as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a graduate degree or equivalent experience in fields related to economic, social, and cultural rights or environmental and human rights. A minimum of seven years of relevant work experience in overseeing research and advocacy on ESC rights, including health, labor, and social security, is required, with at least four years in a management role. Experience in a large organization is advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate a strong track record in developing and implementing impactful human rights projects and possess excellent communication skills in English, with fluency in a second language being a plus.
Educational Background:
A graduate degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field is essential for this position. This educational background should ideally encompass areas related to economic, social, and cultural rights, as well as environmental and human rights, equipping the candidate with the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to effectively lead HRW's initiatives in these areas.
Experience:
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of seven years of relevant experience in human rights research and advocacy, particularly in economic, social, and cultural rights. This experience should include at least four years in a management capacity, demonstrating the ability to lead teams and projects effectively. Languages:
