National Graphic Design Consultant (Biodiversity Knowledge Products)

Job Overview:
The National Graphic Design Consultant will be responsible for creating and designing biodiversity knowledge products that effectively communicate the importance of biodiversity conservation. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to gather information and insights that will inform the design process. The consultant is expected to produce high-quality graphic materials that are visually appealing and informative, ensuring that the content aligns with UNDP's branding and communication standards. The consultant will work closely with the UNDP team to understand the specific needs and objectives of the biodiversity projects, translating complex scientific information into accessible and engaging visual formats. This position requires creativity, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of graphic design principles, as well as the ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop and design graphic materials for biodiversity knowledge products, including brochures, infographics, reports, and presentations.
• Collaborate with project teams to understand the objectives and target audience for each product.
• Conduct research to gather relevant data and information that will inform the design process.
• Ensure that all graphic materials adhere to UNDP branding guidelines and communication standards.
• Revise and edit designs based on feedback from stakeholders and project teams.
• Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality outputs.
• Stay updated on design trends and best practices in graphic design and biodiversity communication.
• Provide technical support and guidance to project teams on graphic design-related matters.

Required Qualifications:

• Proven experience in graphic design, with a strong portfolio showcasing previous work.
• Proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) or equivalent tools.
• Strong understanding of design principles, typography, color theory, and layout.
• Experience in designing materials for environmental or biodiversity-related projects is an advantage.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present ideas clearly and effectively.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communication, or a related field is required. A master's degree or additional certifications in graphic design or a related discipline is preferred. Formal training in biodiversity or environmental science is a plus, as it will enhance the consultant's ability to understand the subject matter and create relevant designs.

Experience:
A minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in graphic design is required, with a focus on creating materials for communication and outreach purposes. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs, particularly in the field of biodiversity or environmental conservation, is highly desirable. The consultant should have a proven track record of delivering high-quality design projects on time and within budget.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Tajik or Russian is an advantage, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the consultant's ability to engage with the target audience effectively.

• This is a home-based position with the possibility of travel to Dushanbe, Tajikistan, as required. The consultant will be engaged as an individual contractor under the UNDP procurement process. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, and the consultant will be responsible for their own taxes and insurance.
