Job Overview:
The Climate and Food Security Specialist position is a critical role within DRC Uganda, specifically aimed at enhancing nutrition" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food and nutrition security and economic self-reliance among refugees and host communities in the West Nile region. The specialist will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating climate adaptation strategies as part of DRC's Food Systems and Economic Self-Reliance project. This role requires a proactive approach to ensure the smooth implementation of project interventions, focusing on high-quality and timely delivery. The specialist will work closely with various stakeholders, including the Project Manager and the Climate & Food Security Team Leader, to raise awareness about climate change and advocate for resilience practices. The position emphasizes a holistic approach to climate resilience, integrating various aspects of food security and economic development.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Climate and Food Security Specialist include providing overall technical leadership and quality assurance across the project's food systems and economic self-reliance interventions. The specialist will oversee the implementation of climate-smart and regenerative agriculture practices, ensuring effective nutrition-sensitive approaches are in place. Responsibilities also include guiding market systems interventions, overseeing natural resource management, and ensuring gender equality and inclusion in all project activities. The specialist will facilitate access to technical expertise, prepare quality progress reports, and work closely with MEAL staff to operationalize the project MEAL framework. Coordination with key stakeholders, representation of DRC in various forums, and maintaining strong linkages with other DRC programs are also essential duties of this role.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Food Security, Natural Resource Management, or a related field. They should have demonstrated experience in managing complex projects, including planning, budgeting, implementation oversight, and donor reporting. A strong understanding of climate-resilient agriculture and market-oriented livelihoods programming is essential, along with experience in project cycle management and financial management. Candidates should also have experience working with government and community structures, and the ability to integrate gender and inclusion into program implementation. Strong leadership, analytical, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills are required, along with full professional proficiency in English.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Food Security, or Natural Resource Management. A Master’s degree in a related field is considered an added advantage. Professional training or certification in project/programme management, climate-smart agriculture, or market systems development is also desirable.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in food security, agriculture, livelihoods, or resilience programming. At least 2 years of this experience should be in project management or technical leadership roles. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing multidisciplinary teams and working across various technical and operational functions.
Languages:
Full professional proficiency in English (written and spoken) is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the project locations is considered a desirable asset, as it can enhance communication and engagement with local communities.

The contract length for this position is 12 months, with a designation of Duty Station in Arua, Uganda. The start date for the role is set for October 202
