The Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB) is an integral part of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), which is a specialized agency of the United Nations. TSB is dedicated to the objectives of telecommunication standardization, providing secretariat support to various groups that study technical, operational, and tariff-related questions. The Bureau facilitates the adoption of Recommendations aimed at standardizing telecommunications and information technology globally. TSB operates under the guidance of the World Telecommunication Standardization Assemblies (WTSA), Telecommunication Standardization Study Groups, and the Telecommunication Standardization Advisory Group. The Bureau is led by an elected Director and is responsible for providing technical, administrative, and logistical support for assemblies and meetings. TSB plays a crucial role in the development of global telecommunication standards and works closely with various stakeholders to ensure effective standardization processes.

Job Overview:
The Study Group Assistant position is designed to provide essential administrative and logistical support to the secretariat of the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB). The role involves working under the supervision of the Study Group Advisor and collaborating closely with Counsellors responsible for specific study groups or working groups. The assistant will be tasked with ensuring that ITU-T Members and meeting participants receive the necessary support, which includes registering and processing documents for meetings, publishing formal and informal documents, and assisting in the preparation of meeting reports. The role also requires maintaining up-to-date information on the ITU website and assisting participants in accessing electronic documents and remote participation systems. The Study Group Assistant will play a vital role in editorial work for ITU-T publications and will be responsible for processing various publications to their final versions. This position is crucial for the smooth operation of meetings and the overall functioning of the TSB, contributing to the development of global telecommunication standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Study Group Assistant will have a wide range of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to: providing support to ITU-T Members and meeting participants; registering and processing documents for meetings, including TSB Circulars and Collective Letters; publishing formal and informal documents using various IT tools; assisting in the preparation of meeting reports and aligning documents in the six official languages of the Union; ensuring that the latest information is available during meetings via the ITU website; assisting meeting participants with accessing electronic documents and remote participation systems; providing editorial support in the preparation of ITU-T publications; processing publications to their final versions; providing administrative services to Counsellors and meeting participants; capturing and processing texts and drafting letters as directed; maintaining lists of meeting participants and other contacts; coordinating logistical support for virtual meetings and other meetings held away from the duty station; providing feedback on tools and processes for improvement; and performing other duties as required, including replacing staff during absences.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires candidates to have completed secondary education with a diploma or equivalent technical or commercial studies with a diploma. For internal candidates, a combination of obligatory schooling and ten years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of complete secondary education for promotion or rotation purposes. Completion of the ITU-T A.1 online training course would be considered an advantage. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in administrative and logistical support functions, particularly in a telecommunication or standardization context.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a complete secondary education with a diploma or equivalent technical or commercial studies with a diploma. For internal candidates, a combination of obligatory schooling and ten years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of complete secondary education for promotion or rotation purposes. Additionally, completion of the ITU-T A.1 online training course would be advantageous, indicating a commitment to professional development in the field of telecommunication standardization.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least five years of experience in a relevant field. It is important to note that a maximum of three years of studies in the field may replace the required experience on a one-to-one basis. Experience in using computer equipment for Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet applications, is essential. Familiarity with Access databases is also beneficial, as it indicates a well-rounded skill set in managing information and data relevant to the position.

Languages:
Proficiency in English at an advanced level is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of other official languages of the Union, including Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, would be considered an advantage, as it enhances communication capabilities within the diverse international context of the ITU.
