Job Overview:
The Fishery Officer position is integral to the Fisheries and Aquaculture Division (NFI) at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy. The incumbent will report to the Senior Fishery Officer and will be responsible for providing support to the NFIPI team and NFI directorate. This role involves contributing to divisional support activities, technical contributions, and coordinating NFI input on relevant UN and global policy processes. The Fishery Officer will engage in various UN fora, global processes, and high-level events, including the FAO World Food Forum. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Fishery Officer will undertake a variety of key functions, including researching, analyzing, and providing access to technical, social, economic, environmental, institutional, and technological data related to fisheries and aquaculture. The officer will produce technical data, statistics, and reports, as well as contribute to technical documents and web content. Responsibilities also include providing technical, statistical, and analytical services for various studies and projects, offering technical backstopping to field projects, and participating in the development of improved analytical tools and methodologies. A minimum of five years of relevant experience in marine, fisheries, or aquaculture science, management, or policy is required. Proficiency in English (level C) and intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is also necessary. Educational Background:
