Job Overview:
The director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director (CD) will oversee the management of IRC's response in Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, known collectively as CAMEX. This role involves guiding the office and activities in El Salvador while driving growth and expansion in Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala. The CD will represent the IRC to external stakeholders, develop strategic relationships, and engage in national and regional dialogue related to humanitarian efforts. The position requires ensuring the overall coordination and strategic direction of the program, providing oversight and coaching for senior managers, and leading country program teams to deliver high-quality programs. The CD will also manage public grants and private funds, ensuring compliance and timely reporting, while exploring opportunities for geographic expansion as needs arise.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Country Director will be responsible for several key areas: Leadership and Representation, where they will maintain professional relations with colleagues, promote a positive work environment, and develop a deep understanding of donor priorities. They will lead the country program through collaboration with colleagues to deliver effective programming and advocacy. In terms of Strategic Direction, Quality, and Growth, the CD will ensure that the country program aligns with the IRC2020 strategy, promoting quality programming and implementing rigorous assessment and monitoring systems. Safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Management will involve overseeing all security issues and maintaining a culture of safety among staff. The CD will also manage staff development, ensuring a skilled and motivated team, and drive operational excellence to achieve efficiency and compliance in all functions. Finally, the CD will model and encourage open communication and adherence to the IRC Way – Global Standards for Professional Conduct.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong leadership abilities and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to communicate effectively both internally and externally. A graduate degree in a relevant field is preferred, along with at least 10 years of international work experience, including leadership at the Country Director level in complex environments. Experience in conflict or disaster response situations is essential, as is professional fluency in both Spanish and English. Candidates should demonstrate technical skills in security management, organizational capacity strengthening, and fundraising success with various international donors. Strong budget oversight capabilities and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite are also required.
Educational Background:
A graduate degree in a relevant field is preferred for this position, which may include areas such as international relations, public administration, or humanitarian studies. This educational background will provide the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to effectively manage the complexities of humanitarian operations and leadership.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 10 years of dynamically responsible international work experience, including leadership roles at the Country Director level. Candidates should have experience managing multi-site, multi-sectoral operations in complex environments, with a proven track record of supervising diverse teams and navigating the challenges of conflict or disaster response situations.
Languages:
Fluency in both written and spoken English and Spanish is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the region may be considered an asset, enhancing communication with local stakeholders and communities.
