Job Overview:
The EpiC Project Director will lead the Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) project, a global health initiative funded by the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the United States Government (USG). This eight-year project, running from 2019 to 2027, aims to enhance epidemic control across multiple health areas, including HIV, maternal and child health, malaria, and nutrition. The Project Director will be responsible for achieving the project's vision and strategy, directing the technical team, and managing relationships with national and international partners. The role requires a strong focus on programmatic and fiscal responsibility, ensuring compliance with US government regulations, and effectively communicating project accomplishments. The selected candidate will oversee the project through its final year of implementation and ensure a compliant closeout by December 2027.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Director will execute overall project work plans and ensure the achievement of project results. Key responsibilities include directing and monitoring the implementation of activities, providing managerial oversight for project close-out, ensuring compliance with donor and organizational policies, and overseeing all technical assistance and administrative support activities. The Project Director will also manage the sub-contract and sub-grant cycle close-out, respond to issues during project implementation, and work closely with the Director of Finance to oversee financial management systems. Additionally, the Project Director will supervise and mentor the project team, promote a safe and equitable work environment, and maintain effective communication with stakeholders. The role involves building a strong network with key partners and ensuring the project is represented in relevant groups.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess excellent management, communication, and organizational skills, along with comprehensive knowledge of project management theories and practices. A strong understanding of non-profit funding streams, including government and philanthropic sources, is essential. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong time management, multi-tasking abilities, and negotiation skills. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are necessary for planning and managing resources effectively. The ability to motivate and collaborate with others across all levels of the organization is crucial, as is the capacity to build positive relationships with local communities and stakeholders.
Educational Background:
A Master’s Degree or its international equivalent in fields such as Communication and Social Marketing, Economic Development, Education, Health, Nutrition, Research, Technology, or a related area is required. A Project Management (PM) Certification is preferred, indicating a formal understanding of project management principles and practices.
Experience:
The position typically requires 15+ years of relevant experience in project management, including at least 10 years of strategic leadership or management experience. Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Chief of Party, Principal Investigator, or Project Director on USG-funded global health projects. Proficiency with USG rules and regulations related to international development and NGOs is essential, along with demonstrated experience in multi-sector project management and implementation. Experience in leading complex projects with international scope and successfully closing out USG-funded projects is preferred.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with the ability to read, write, and speak the language proficiently. Fluency in a second language, such as French, Spanish, or Portuguese, is considered an added advantage, enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders.
Additional Notes:
This position is classified as exempt and falls under Band O in the compensation structure. The expected salary range for this role is between USD 165,000 and 185,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. FHI 360 offers a competitive benefits package, including a 7% contribution to a pension plan, 18 days of paid vacation, 12 sick days, and 11 holidays per year for full-time employees.
