Job Overview:
The F3 Mission Project Manager will oversee the F3 mission, which is part of ESA's Science Programme. This role involves managing the mission from its initial phases through to the spacecraft's in-orbit commissioning. The selected candidate will report to the Head of the Future Missions Department and will be responsible for leading the mission through its various phases, including Phase A/B and, contingent upon mission adoption, Phases C/D/E

• The F3 mission aims to advance scientific knowledge through the development of a space segment that includes science instruments and operational centers. The Project Manager will be tasked with ensuring that the mission adheres to its schedule and budget while meeting its scientific objectives. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and effective communication with various stakeholders, including industrial partners and the scientific community.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties of the F3 Mission Project Manager include defining and overseeing the manufacturing and launch of the F3 space segment, managing the development of science instruments, and preparing for spacecraft operations. The Project Manager will lead the invitation to tender for industrial procurement contracts, ensuring that proposals for Phases A/B and preliminary proposals for Phases C/D/E1 are submitted. Responsibilities also include monitoring the delivery of science instruments, procuring launch services, managing the project budget, and preparing reports for delegate bodies. The Project Manager will need to maintain effective communication with the project team, the Project Scientist, and other stakeholders, while also managing risks and ensuring compliance with project objectives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a master's degree in Engineering or Applied Physics, along with at least five years of relevant professional experience. The role requires strong project management skills, particularly in spacecraft development, and an understanding of industrial costs and schedules. Candidates should also have experience in managing complex projects and risk management processes, as well as negotiation skills. The ability to foster cooperation and manage relationships with various stakeholders is essential.

Educational Background:
A master's degree in Engineering or Applied Physics is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary technical knowledge and skills to manage complex space missions effectively.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in project management, particularly in the field of spacecraft development. Experience working with international teams and managing diverse functional areas relevant to ESA activities is highly desirable. Candidates with a background in leading teams and managing complex projects will be preferred.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is one of the working languages of ESA. Proficiency in French is also required. Knowledge of another language from a Member State would be considered an asset, enhancing communication with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is a four-year appointment, which may be extended to an indefinite term based on performance and organizational needs. The role is classified within the grade band A2-A4, with the possibility of being filled at the A1 level for candidates with less than four years of relevant experience.
