Job Overview:
The position involves translating documents from English to Chinese, specifically focusing on funding proposals related to public health and international development. The translator will be expected to convey complex and technical content accurately and clearly, ensuring that the translations are culturally appropriate and maintain the formal tone required for official communications. The role is crucial for facilitating communication between WHO and Chinese governmental authorities, thereby supporting WHO's mission in Mauritania and enhancing health outcomes in the region. The translator must be adept at handling health-related terminology and ensuring that the final documents are publication-ready, reflecting the highest standards of linguistic precision and contextual understanding.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The online volunteer will be responsible for the following duties:

• Translating the full content of funding proposal documents from English to Chinese, ensuring accuracy and clarity in conveying technical terminology related to public health and noncommunicable diseases.
• Maintaining a formal and diplomatic tone throughout the translation, consistent with official communications directed at governmental entities.
• Preserving the formatting and structure of the original documents to ensure that the translated versions are coherent and professional.
• Conducting a thorough final quality check of the translated documents to ensure linguistic and conceptual accuracy, making necessary adjustments to enhance clarity and precision.
• Delivering high-quality translations within tight deadlines, demonstrating strong attention to detail and consistency in terminology, grammar, and formatting.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess proven experience in professional translation from English to Chinese, preferably in the fields of public health, international development, or technical cooperation. A strong command of both languages is essential, along with the ability to convey complex content clearly and diplomatically. Familiarity with health-related terminology, particularly in areas such as noncommunicable diseases and health systems strengthening, is highly desirable. Experience in translating official documents, proposals, or reports for governmental or international institutions is also required. Attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines are critical for this role.

Educational Background:
A degree in translation, linguistics, public health, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have formal training in translation practices and a strong understanding of health-related terminology and concepts. Additional certifications in translation or relevant fields may be advantageous.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 2-3 years of professional translation experience, specifically translating documents in the public health or international development sectors. Experience working with governmental or international organizations is a plus, as it demonstrates familiarity with the expectations and standards required for official communications.

Languages:
Fluency in both English and Chinese is mandatory, with a strong emphasis on the ability to translate complex technical content accurately. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required for this position.
