Job Overview:
The Global Employee Relations Advisor is a pivotal role within Mercy Corps, providing comprehensive employee relations support across the organization's global operations, particularly focusing on various regions. This position is integral to the Emergency Response and Employee Relations (ER2) Center of Excellence (COE), which is part of the People function at Mercy Corps. The Advisor will manage employee relations cases, contribute to training delivery, assist with the administration of the HR Acuity case management system, and support the Ethics team on HR investigations. The role requires strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion. The Advisor will work closely with the Senior HR Advisor US and regional/country People Teams to ensure timely case triage, consistent policy application, and effective employee relations support, thereby enhancing the overall employee experience within the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Global Employee Relations Advisor will be responsible for managing and supporting employee relations cases from intake through resolution, ensuring consistent application of policies and procedures across assigned regions. This includes providing guidance to regional and country People Team practitioners on matters such as performance management, disciplinary actions, grievances, and workplace conflicts. The Advisor will conduct initial case triage and assessments to determine appropriate responses and escalation paths, collaborating with teams to ensure compliance with local labor laws and organizational policies. Additionally, the Advisor will support the implementation of the HR Acuity case management system, assist in generating reports and analytics on ER case trends, and maintain accurate records in compliance with data protection requirements. The role also involves drafting and coordinating separation agreements, mapping and tracking legal cases, supporting training programs for People Team practitioners, and providing ad hoc support to the Ethics team on HR investigations. The Advisor will actively engage in safeguarding practices and uphold the values of Mercy Corps in all interactions.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Global Employee Relations Advisor position must possess a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, with a Master's degree preferred. A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in Employee Relations or HR generalist roles with significant exposure to employee relations is required. Demonstrated experience in ER case management, including intake, documentation, investigation support, and resolution is essential. Candidates should have fluency in English, with additional fluency in Spanish, French, or Arabic highly recommended. Experience with HR case management systems, knowledge of employment law principles, and strong written and verbal communication skills are also necessary. Professional HR certification (such as SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR, or equivalent) is preferred, along with experience working in international organizations or the NGO/humanitarian sector.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for the Global Employee Relations Advisor position includes a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field as a minimum requirement.
